I have a chunk of wood about 18" square that I'd like to skim the surface off, and as it's too big to got through a thicknesser a router sled seems the way to do it.
I'm not likely to need it for anything else so am looking for a cheap but accurate solution. I found these rails: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C5RBW3QM/
- and wondered if I could then make the other bit from timber like this design:

...and screw it onto the metal blocks on the rails. Would that work?

I bought this to help flatten a piece of oak to make a cutting board, don't waste your money, look on YouTube, there are plenty of people who make their own Router sleds from scraps.
https://youtu.be/s-y3TmKDGrs?si=cgbEHjZRkNZtSzRH I've just bought this plus all the accessories, ill give my opinion of it in a week or so, I've seen folk us similar to remove small pieces of wood with a jig.

Thanks; in the end I made my own from six lengths of timber. The first test shows that it seems to work as expected, but I've ordered one of these to try as well before starting on the actual piece: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09656SD8B
