We ordered a new composite door that was supposed to be suitable for wheelchair access. The quoted price seemed fair, so we went ahead with the order.

However, once the door was installed, it did not allow wheelchair access, and the window was incorrect. The company agreed to reorder the window but insisted that the door met accessibility requirements. Unfortunately, I can’t even get through it myself, let alone my disabled mother.

In the meantime, I contacted other suppliers to see if they could provide a properly accessible door. They all said they couldn’t unless I opted for a fully bespoke door, which would be significantly more expensive. Since that wasn’t a viable option, we decided to keep the door and have the replacement window fitted.

To my shock, the replacement window was fitted but it also incorrect and cracked! Worse still, the style of window we originally requested has since been discontinued, and they have no suitable alternative to offer.

Now, they’re telling us to find another supplier and that they will take the door back. But the issue is, I can’t find anyone who can provide what we need!

As it stands, I’m being forced to either pay for a door that doesn’t match what was ordered or face legal action for non-payment.

Any advice on what I should do?

Sounds like they also can't provide what you want if they keep sending unsuitable doors!

What's the actual issue? Is it not being made wide enough, or is the threshold wrong?

When I've had doors replaced they've sent someone out to measure up, then build to those dimensions. They were pretty standard sizes though.

If it's any help I use a local firm, but they source their doors from

There are wheelchair options for the threshold.

Yes, that's correct. They sent someone to take measurements, and I informed them that I would need a low thresh for wheelchair access. later confirmed this in an email.

However, due to the way the house is constructed, their system leaves a high threshold, which I believe should have been brought to my attention during the survey. the original did give us wheel chair access but was wooden framed.

We need a specific style of window to comply with the conservation area regulations, which is now discontinued from their suppliers.

I also asked them to put it back to how it was but they destroyed the original door when removing.

Im looking more for advice on what I can do when they have said they can’t supply what they quoted for and can’t put it back to original spec.

Any advice would be welcomed

I’ll get some photos when I’m back home next week.

Just to update.

We put the deposit on the credit card and they are refunding under section 75.
