I'm currently renovating a house in France and I've just had the water meter replaced. Almost all of the plumbing will be replaced but in the short term I'm wondering if there's any reason I couldn't just connect a garden tap directly to the exit from the water meter and use it in the interim?

Yes , it’ll be fine . I’ve lived and worked in France on and off over the years .

Just be prepared for the pressure of the water.

There's a reason that pressure reducers are pretty standard fare in French plumbing.

Ours came into the meter housing at 7.2 bar!

For comparison our UK house was around 2.75 bar at the mains.

Thanks RushJob that was certainly a big part of my worry but I think I'll suck it and see. I'll probably keep the mains off when it's not in use.
