I know there are loads of threads on home automation but they don’t address the challenge I’ve got. About 10 years ago I re-did the kitchen and ripped out most of the wiring so I could install LightwaveRF kit.

I have a bank of hidden dimmable switches like this:

These are controlled through the LightwaveRF v1 hub (broken) but the beauty of them is that you can set them to different on/off/dim settings and then use a battery powered wall switch to control different moods:

I’ve just noticed how grubby it is! Anyway, I digress. The great thing about it is that I don’t need a hub to control the lights as the switch can be paired with local devices and control them without going through the (now junked) hub.

I don’t believe that LightwaveRF hubs are backwards compatible so I’m looking for a replacement set-up that (a) does not have a hub and (b) can be controlled flexibly from a multi-function switch to allow for different mood lighting settings. Does such a thing exist or am I better just to upgrade to a newer LightwaveRF set-up? TBH I find LightwaveRF quite flakey so would prefer to keep away from it. Maybe the newer stuff is more reliable with a better interface?

Thanks.

I had the same issue (broken gen 1 hub). Contacted Lightwave and they confirmed new hub will work with gen 1 switches etc.

I returned the gen 1 hub and got a healthy discount for anew gen 2 hub.

All my switches and sockets now controllable from the app etc.

Shelly have a wall controller now that can do this without a hub.

I don't use it as I have home assistant so I can't give any first hand experience.
