Are washing machine water feeds universal sizes?
Discussion
Hello,
I've repaired our washing machine, but forgot how short the inlet hose is, so tugged at it fairly hard before remembering to unfasten the other end from the mains. I want to replace it now rather than worry about whether it will break where it was put under strain (it's also 9 years old). The universal ones on the Screwfix or Toolstation sites have an unsettling number of reviews saying they immediately leaked, or blistered. An OEM replacement (Samsung) is £45. An alternative is a £30 metal braided item, but it's OEM for a different brand, and Samsung isn't on the list of compatibility. However, so many generic hoses are for sale, I assumed that all connections are universal sizes anyway.
Also, is a metal braided hose worth it or just a gimmick?
Thanks.

All the ones I've dealt with have been a standard size - here's an OEM Hotpoint for £11:

Nice find, thanks for that. As with so much now, it’s a bit of a minefield of finding something that might be decent quality, rather than just the same poor quality stuff but at a higher price!
I’m intrigued by the Aquastop hoses and similar devices. Seems to have potential to save a lot of hassle if your feed pipe splits, but I’m not sure if they can be fitted to an horizontal outlet. Plus most don’t seem long enough.

Just for a bit of balance -I’m intrigued by the Aquastop hoses and similar devices. Seems to have potential to save a lot of hassle if your feed pipe splits, but I’m not sure if they can be fitted to an horizontal outlet. Plus most don’t seem long enough.
Our second home - left unheated through the winter several months over several years
There's three basic Screwfix hoses all left open / full pressure water
We've never had any leaks
