Getting aircon fitted to my gym within an outdoor barn that already has LOTS of plug sockets within it (previous owner ran an office in there)

Aircon guy wants a 16amp and 20amp outdoor socket installed prior to the job starting. I assume thats as simple as T'ing off the existing socket ring inside and running power to two external sockets rated to the right amps? Not much more complex than adding another plug socket internally?

Not really - you'd be better off running new radials from two new circuit breakers in the consumer unit. There isn't a 20A connector though so if a 16A commado isn't enough it will need to be a 32A version.

Also there is no fuse in a 16a socket, so you would need to down rate the socket ring circuit from 32a to 16a or fit some sort of inline fuse rated at 16a or below.

Best to fit 2 new radials as mentioned above.

Blimey that must be a big unit. Mine is rated at <13A.
