Shocked at the cost of a small Combi Boiler Replacement...
Discussion
Our son has been informed he needs to replace his combi boiler due to it's age and unavailablety of parts. It has been regularly serviced and is working fine other than it's now leaking from underneath the unit. He lives in a two bed two bath 2nd floor apartment and is simply looking at a like for like replacement. This morning British Gas have quoted £3300..! I'm probably going to be told that's about right but both me and my son were genuinely gobsmacked.

The question is; why did you even ask British Gas? They would be well off the bottom of my shortlist of people I would to pay to install a boiler.

Sad but true.
Find a good local plumber, ideally recommended.
That said, I suspect most boilers begin at £800, & it will be at least a day or two of any decent plumbers time.
I'd have hoped for quotes under or around £2K.
Try to get one with a 10 year guarantee!

Just replaced a combi boiler with a Worcester 1000 24kw for £2300.
Could you post where about your son lives, and the make and model of the boiler. BG are possibly the last company I would want to quote for a replacement boiler
He lives in Leeds, the current boiler in a Glow-worm,he's had a service plan with BG so that's why they have quoted. I've since had another independent verbal quote for appox £2K using a 'Ideal' boiler and I'm going to have a ring round tomorrow to speak to a couple of other smaller plumber/heating tradesman. People use British Gas because of the brand name and certainty that delivers
I saw that BOXT offered next day installations
I would nearly always pick a national name over a one man band from round the corner personally, even if it costs a bit more, but then I still take my car to a main dealer cause I like the service and “free” coffee

We’ve got a Vaillant - sister company with glow worm.
We took a service/repair out with them for £300 a few years back.
They replaced about £700+ of parts and gave it a warranty for the next six months during which they would have come back out whatever was wrong. Has run without issue since.
Might be worth giving them a call if you haven’t already.
