I had a roofing chap round last week to try and get 2 aerials off the roof of our house, one on the pitch and one of the side of the house. He got the one on the pitch off easy. the one on the side of the house he couldn't.

We are in a semi and the house has a 1.5m single story side extension with a pitched roof and the aerial is bolted onto the side of the house on a big pole... we have side access and then there is a fence, so the angle of his ladder would be in the air and no where near the wall. He said the only way would be with scaffolding which will cost a fortune. Is there any alternatives that end with removal of the aerial? He wasn't keen to walk on the extension roof due to the angle.

As access is only needed for a matter of minutes might a cherry picker be an option?

Can you rent a cherry picker by the hour? Didn't even think of it. Would be an idea though!

Can't then overhang the side and undo the bolts... biggrin

You can - even self drive...

We did have someone access a similar area. it was a bit dodgy, and he had a near miss, and slipped down the roof, being saved by the guttering, which broke, but was more replaceable than his legs....

Cherry picker. They reach a long way. We had one repair/repoint our chimney that looked like it was an ex BT transit van type one

Maybe get in touch with whoever put it up? That would have been a lot harder job that taking it down.

I think he meant run the hooked ladder up the extension roof so you are below the pole & fixing point.

Believe it has been up longer than the extension has existed. So prior to the extension would have been very easy smile

Oh I see. The side extension does not have a ridge, its just angled down and away from the house. If that describes it correctly!
