Two bedroom end terrace house in Lincoln to replace existing combi boiler to include the following:-

- Isolate, drain down, remove and dispose of existing boiler
- Supply & Install a IDEAL LOGIC MAX COMBI2 C24 with HORIZONTAL flue kit
- Supply & install a new system filter
- Make all necessary alterations to pipework as required for the new installation
- Flush the system with cleaner, refill system & treat with inhibitor
- Carry out final checks to confirm correct operation, commission new installation and leave in full working order
- The Ideal Logic MAX is provided with a manufacturer 10 Year parts & Labour warranty (Annual service required to maintain warranty)

Quiet staggered by a quote of £4789

One with a five year guarantee IDEAL I-MINI C24 COMB £4056

These prices to me are obviously well over the mark, at another house had a conventional boiler replaced with a combi a couple of years ago and this involved quiet a bit more work and that came in at £2400. Have prices in the UK really gone up that much?

I would say that is incredibly expensive for an Ideal Logic boiler.

Edited to add that is a like for like swap! I would get another plumber round to have a look and quote?

There was a recent thread where someone had a quote around 5k including some new pipe runs/ builders work with new location.

Prices seem steep to me. Had new combi boilers fitted in two properties over the past 3 years (with I think 5yr warranty) and been around 2k-2.6k, somewhat mates rates.

Anything over 3.5k seems very steep to me, but maybe thats the market. I'd be looking to get a couple of quotes for sure.

For a simple boiler swap try Boxt or Heatable.

Check the fixed price boxt can offer for comparison, Quick look at a random Lincoln postcode and rough 2 bed house setup is much lower

Just check what sort of flush they are doing as the boiler suppliers usually specify a proper powerflush to qualify for the 10 year warranty & that's not a five-minute job. Other than that the price does seen toppy, but it's the middle of winter so peak boiler-going-wrong season.

Budget for a boiler replacement should be around £2.5-3K.

As above ensure the system is properly power flushed, no point in installing a new boiler on a system full of crud. Yes a filter will help but better off starting with a clean system.

Also worth replacing the radiator TRV valves when the system is drained.

If you're up for it, remove all the rads one at a time and take them outside and flush them through with a hose to remove the crud. You'll have to turn them over a few times. Ensure all the black crud is out of the system.

Thanks for all the replies checked with Boxt or Heatable and they come back with more realistic quotes of around £2400, I have left it with the agency for now to see what they come up with today!

Oops yes they possibly added agency and landlord taxes 😀, BOXT do ask if you are a landlord when going through their quotation.

How good's the insulation? Worth sticking a heat pump in instead and taking advantage of the £7500 grant?

Not good enough for a heat pump installation, 1970’s built EPC C.

Finally on advice from a work colleague who lives in the area went with a local company who come in at nearly half the price of the original quotation. Certainly pays to shop around and not use agencies to arrange this sort of work.

It was about the same price for me to get ASHP instead of a replacement boiler after the grant.
