Mains in filtration systems

In the next few months we’re due to embark on a renovation and with that my wife has asked we get filtered water. We live in Yorkshire so I don’t think we need a softener so I wondered if anyone has installed a mains in filter or whether it’s a thing or should I just be looking at a filter per drinking water tap?

Lots of hard water areas in Yorkshire so check first. Most of north Yorkshire is hard water for eg.
