Decent Vacuum Cleaner?
Discussion
The answer is a Sebo...
We are a traditional setup and my Mrs swears by ours/hers, must be 10yrs old, she hammers it and it has never failed.
Some bits have worn out like the hose and accessories but all parts are fully supported and available.
Admittedly not the quietest or best looking.... But I love her

Sebo Felix with a hose extension. It has a lift away feature so it can be more easily carried for stair cleaning.
Will perform like new 10+ years later with simple maintenance. It won’t be a machine that performs well for 3-6 months, then gets worse and worse and eventually breaks in a way that can’t be repaired. It will just work and work well.

I sold a few Kirbys for a short time in the 90s during uni, around 30 years ago by coincidence.
Hows your kirby been over that period?
I bought it used about 10 years ago. It's a G4 which is from 1993-1997. It's been the best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. It's heavy but it's got a powered drive motor so it moves around pretty well. It came with full accessories including a paint gun (which I've not used). Hows your kirby been over that period?
I'll never buy a bag less vacuum again.

It was the G3 model then and it had just come out in the UK as they still had a few Legend models left which were the previous line, G3 was the first powered one, 1992 and I can still remember the price £1250 but no one ever paid that much for one.

I can't stand bag free vacuums having tried many.. Been using Miele complete C3 for 4 years now with carpet and hard floors. Really happy with it. Bags are little pricey but there are non Miele alternatives for bags
Miele C3 Cat and Dog. Faultless and brilliantly engineered. Everything just clicks together effortlessly.Yes the bags are expensive. However opening the unit seals the bag, then just hoik it into the bin.
No dust escapes. How the cheaper bags perform I don't know. But as an asthma sufferer I can't risk it.

Blimey this brings it all back, I did a stint on Kirby for 4 weeks which is about the length most last, sold 3.

I remember a door to door salesman coming to my parents house back in the 90's. I was home from university and he was talking about bed mites. I'm pretty sure my mother had him vacuum the whole house before he gave up the price and was shown out the door. This was in west London and I hope it wasn't you :-). Not had a bagged vacuum at all. Do you chuck the full bag out, or empty it - or does it depend on make? Seem to remember my Mum's Hoover Junior had a bag than needed emptying. Funnily enough, she's now got a Sebo, that apparently broke about 6 months ago...hmmm.
I've got a Sebo, I believe the bags are intended to be thrown out when full, but that seems a little wasteful to me, plus I'm tighter than an aquatic bird's ringpiece, so I just pull out as much as possible every few months. It's mildly unpleasant, but the vacuum performance is noticeably improved, and the bag shows no undue signs of wear Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
