Just posting on here to see if anyone has any recommendations for aluminium window and door suppliers / fitters around the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire) area? We will be needing 1 x 3 panel sliding door (5 metres), 2 or 3 normal size external doors and whole house windows. The sliding and external doors will definitely be aluminium but we may opt for Residence 7 flush casement UPVC windows if aluminium comes in too pricey. In the builders tender he has specified Cortizo for the sliding door but we could look at other manufacturers. We may also require an Horman or similar entrance door. Any recommendations or avoidances greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We used Midlands bi-folds. No hard sell, very competitive on price, and took responsibility for all measurements onsite+install. As well as a slider and bifold, along with various windows they also supplied and installed the gabel end glazing and front door (Smart Alu door).

They are based in north Leicestershire so am sure they will cover Nottingham. Happily will recommend them to anyone, especially if you have any gabel glazing that's needs doing.

I’ve used Derwent windows and doors. They have a showroom in Ripley, Derbyshire and one in West Bridgford, ( next to the city ground).

We have used them quite a bit over the last few years , origin french doors , solidor composite doors and evolution windows . Its a family run business And while we have had multiple issues with some of the products due to manufacturing problems they have been excellent in sorting them out. The customer service has been top notch . Check out the website.

Had excellent service from both Lifestyle Windows at Ilkeston and Glazdale at Langley Mill. No silly pricing and discount nonsense and payment once it's all installed and your 100% happy.

Have you been satisfied with the Evolution windows? Someone recommended them to me today as an alternative to Residence. I’ve never heard of them but apparently very popular! Thanks

Yes very happy with the windows ,we have had some of them in about 6 years now and have had no issues with them. A few of the sealed units have misted up but have been changed with no problems. There were a few manufacturing defects on a couple of the sashes when installed but again sorted out.

They are not cheap but probably in the same ball park as the residence?

We went for the storm sashes over the flush, we were all set to have the flush till my wife spotted the storm in the showroom and that was that. But im happy with the choice.

They are good quality windows.

The timber look joint on the outside for me makes all the difference over the usual mitre joint.
All of ours don’t have tickle vents (before the reg change) but we just had a new one fitted to an extension, i wasn’t keen on having it but the design they use to conceal them from the outside is the best i have seen…….. there is a full length cloaking peice that covers the vent.

Heres the last one we had.

Thanks mate that’s really helpful. I’m going to contact Derwent to get a quote for Evolution windows (they are the only Evolution supplier in Nottingham). We’ve just received our quote for aluminium @ 42k!! Needless to say we are going to stick with UPVC laugh

Ive never been to the west bridgford place ( I’ve driven past it ) As the Ripley showroom is just up the road from me, it’s definitely worth a ride up there, its a converted old church and is very nice inside.

Before covid on average they were about £1000 a window, but like everything they have gone up in price ( a lot ). The window pictured was £2000 but after Christmas they usually have a discount on 10%. So ended up being £1800. We had to match the others so had no choice.

They have aluminium doors / windows too on show.

We would have liked aluminium windows too but couldn’t afford them . Have stretched to 2 sets of origin french doors. Which we are also very happy with.

When we bought the house and needed to change the first 4 windows i also went to glazedale for a quote as they had done some work on one of my brothers houses. The quote was very similar to the evolution one , Glazedale manufacture the windows themselves and look fine but Seeing both products in the flesh the evolution looked the better.

Thanks again. I'll take a ride up to the Ripley showroom - the West Bridgford one is hassle parking and the Ripley one is on their website which looks to have much more products to show than Bridgford.

£1800 though for one window is bonkers isn't it! wobblehehe

I had a 3.5m bifold and french doors just before the covid holiday. Price was good and the product excellent, much better than the numerous Hormann products I've seen.

UK based in Nottinghamshire.

Mmmmm they might be worth me looking at - thank you. We've actually got a Hormann front door and in 7 or 8 years been very happy with it although the cost of them nowadays (circa £5k) is a bit much for us I think.

I'm assuming that's the price for an Alu framed one???

I was amazed how much more expensive Alu is than PVC. Item 3 and 5 are the same window but the PVC version was nearly 3 times cheaper. Looking at the finished product installed, from both outside and in I'm not sure if anyone can notice (or care) which version we went with in the end.

On less conspicuous elevations/facings it's hard to see what value Alu frames adds apart from keeping the blance book of glazing company looking good smile.

I’d spec it all with laminated glass too, certainly on the ground floor. I don’t know why suppliers don’t do this as standard.

Can I ask what the product is that you’ve used for the walls and that support column? Is it a solid block product or have you used some form of cladding?

Thanks.

Not sure which wall you mean, but the answer is steels....lots of steels everywhere.
