Think I'm fighting a losing battle with the moss on my lawn but not going to give up just yet. The moss really seems to have come back with a vengence in the last few weeks, if I hit it with a dose of iron sulphate now is it going to do more harm than good to the lawn??

I do a maintenance dose of iron during the winter to keep the moss at bay.

I'm not too sure .. If you kill the moss at this time of year ...What's going to fill in the bare patch ??? Other than new moss frown .
I think your time and money would be better spent improving the drainage(herringboned perforated pipes)/spiking/pruning overhanging trees or improving your soil. Address the cause of the moss.

I think it may depend on whether you are going to clear the dead moss after?

I am going to do some winter fertilizer this week with a light does of iron sulphate, but more for strength than moss removal. That said I have been dosing it every 4 months after a massive de-mossing this year. But I'll save the big does for spring.

I use a product called mo bactor. It uses bacteria to eat the moss and fertilises the lawn.

All things that you do need to solve the underlying drainage issue otherwise the moss will return .

Shade is a bigger problem for me. I only really get moss where my neighbours 40ft conifer blocks the light so badly.

The GreenThumb bloke was at my next door neighbour yesterday and out of curiosity I was asking about what he was spreading and a bit about the routines they had. Moss killer was definitely part of what was going down yesterday up here in NE Scotland.

Won't do it any harm at all, although I would be inclined to apply a lower dose to harden the lawn for winter rather than deal with moss issues. As someone mentioned above, if you kill the moss now then it's too late to overseed so you're looking at more moss and/or weeds if ground temps remain higher than usual.

we removed moss and thatch and then over-seeded three weeks ago - no issues and a verdant green lawn now...
however it is noticeable that the temperature here has significantly dropped in the last week or so...
