Reversing the controls on Venetian blinds
Discussion
Last time we ordered blinds we had the option of where to place the controls, and as it's two blinds to fit a wide window we had all the controls at the far edge. Current company we didn't get the option to choose so never even thought about it - short version is I need to swap the controls on one of the sets.
Anyone ever done this? Even if it's possible am I going to end up tying myself in knots and ending up with uneven blinds at the end of it?
It all looks pretty symmetrical inside so seems to be a case of untying the fixings within the headrail, turning the metal bar around inside it and reattaching. On the casing itself there is obviously a cutout that would fit either control, although one has a filler piece in it which hopefully will just move across to the other side.
Am I mad to try this or should just pony up for new blinds?

In case anyone finds this thread in the future, due to the tumbleweed response in here and the lack of cases I found on the web of people swapping their own controls (apart from one guy who said it's possible but very very messy, and he rarely has clients who would pay for the time to do it so he was obviously in the industry himself!) I decided not to even try it. The solution to having the long cord hanging down in the middle of the window was to put a hook at high-blind height on the side of the window frame and just drape the cord over it whenever the blinds were up.
The window is 2.4m wide so a single blind would likely have been too heavy (wood or faux wood) so we needed to split it in two, I just wish we'd ordered from the same company as last time who gave us the option to locate both the raising/lowering mechanism and the tilting mechanism on the same side of our choice. Lesson learned!

Are the header bars not reversible? I.e. they can be fitted so the controls fall either side of the window.
Do you mean just fitting the whole unit backwards? No the cords would be behind the blinds so not accessible. If you mean reversing the bar inside the casing, it might be possible but involves untying and retying a lot of string and it's just not worth the hassle at the moment.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
