I currently have a ring 2 wireless doorbell which is not very reliable.
When it’s working it’s great, and I have it linked to a solar panel so it’s constantly charged.
I have just switched broadband connections to a much better signal.
Which I thought would improve it.
The signal strength by the doorbell outside is 20mbps. Apparently it should only need 2.
Its worked ok for a couple of days, failed today and it won’t reconnect.
So looking for a replacement as I’m not v impressed with it, the finish on the doorbell is corroding as well.
Any recommendations the Tapo one looks pretty good and doesn’t need a subscription either.
Battery life is important, I do not want to be changing the battery very often.
Also want it to alert me when someone approaches.

I switched from ring and got a Eufy doorbell. The battery life is way better and there's no subscription either.

Another vote for Eufy, bought and installed one for my mum. Simple, easier to use and you can buy every part separately of you need to replace anything (as I found out when her cats ate the antennas off her base station/chime bit).

I'm not such a eufy doorbell fan sadly. I had one and it lasted 13 months until the microphone went. Eufy suggested unpairing and re pairing. I did this but as it pairs by sound it refused to ever pair with the homebase again!

My in-laws had the same thing happen to theirs. Both the wireless 2k version.

Eufy offered a discount on a replacement which was still more money than it cost on Amazon.

I went to ring and got the doorbell 2 (which I know you are struggling with) for half the cost of the eufy. After a year of the £5 a month it'll have cost me the same as the eufy did to buy upfront and subscription free.

I have to say I prefer the functionality of the ring. It's so much nicer to have a proper convo with someone at the door than the walkie talkie style push to talk on the eufy.

The eufy battery life was significantly better than ring which wants a charge about every 3 weeks but we have a busy household

I wouldn't rule out trying eufy again in the future, all I would say is check out lots of reviews Inc the low rated reviews on Amazon etc to check the particular model is reliable.

Very happy ezviz user here. No subscription you just put an SD card in the noise maker bit. It’s honestly been faultless and very quick to respond to motion or button press.

The hardware is hik vision just re-branded so very good and great quality pictures.

I am the opposite view on Ezviz
The camera fogs over constantly and has to be taken in and dried out and sometimes blasted with her hairdryer
The app is awful
About 1 times per month it logs you out of the device , won’t register it the camera back and you have to completely reset our account

This a image from my camera on Sunday afternoon , I had to take it in dry it out , then it dumped me out of the app and took about 20mins to get back in to app.

Anyone got any experience of the Tapo ones?

Got a few of their cameras already so lightly invested at the moment.

Wow gosh I’ve never had any of these issues! I’m on an iPhone if that might be different app bugs or something. Mine is also under a canopy so is protected from the rain and moisture more.

I’ve also got 3 of their outdoor camera which again have been faultless.

I have the Google nest one.

Lasts about 5 weeks to a charge.

Takes about 3 seconds to come up on the phone.

Video quality is good.

But its very easy take off the wall if you live in a dogy area it could go walk about.

I have a home mesh network and I have a disk right by my front door just for my doorbell. While you may get 20mb on your phone it mightn't be enough for the doorbell. Something to consider.

I've got the Nest one too and it just works without issues. Apparently it's quicker than most at getting the image on the phone. It's the mains one, so no charging required. I think it once went briefly AWOL on a very cold day.

Not really any subscription as it comes included with my 2TB Google storage.

We also have the wired Nest one, and it's been fine for about 5 years. The front is starting to flake though, but it's only cosmetic.

Expensive though at £200.

I've had an email this morning telling me Reolink have released a battery doorbell. Currently 10% off at £125.99 and I have a code for (I think) a further 5%

Eufy had a number of (very) serious security issues a while back, and having done some reading online I'm not entirely convinced they ever addressed the issues. Something about people being able to access the live camera feed without requiring any sort of security I think.

I we have a button, some bell wire, and a little bell and transformer..... very 1940's but it works!

Friends etc all have our mobile number, couriers post covid have got really very good at just leaving stuff behind the plant pot on the porch steps. Anything of high value goes to the local 24h post office or collection point, both a 5min walk away.

In my experience, despite the doorbell being in an obvious position and easily visible, around a third of our visitors persist in knocking on the door rather than ringing it.

What I'm looking for, so far without success, is a wireless, wi-fi, peep-hole camera that's motion activated. I can't be the only person who thinks this would be useful, can I?

That’s lovely for you.

Probably not helpful at all to the guy wanting advice on which video doorbell to buy though.

Same here and no complaints - other than with us living by a main road we have to cut down the motion detection area quite considerably, which means we often don't see who's been at the door until they turn around and walk back down the drive.

We've got the 2Tb Google One subscription, which covers extra storage for GMail/Photos, the Nest Aware Subscription and Fitbit Premium for about £8 a month iirc.

Another vote for nest here. I bought it fairly recently as part of the Google store birthday sale and it has been really good so far. As said, the nest subscription is included with Google One storage and it links well with my other Google devices.

I have the battery version but have wired it into a chime as well so don't have to charge it. It means we get the instant chime but also a follow up on our other speakers with facial recognition letting us know who is there. I don't think many (any?) others have the same recognition feature which we really like. Picture quality seems really good as well compared to others I've seen

Battery powered devices are the work of the devil IMO. Hardwire for power wherever you can, even if it takes a bit of effort.

I know people like to suggest anything but Ring on this forum, but I've had a hardwired Ring Pro 2 (£220) fitted for the last 3 and a half years and it has been absolutely superb. Not had one single gitch or issue with it whatsoever in the entire time. Completely fit-and-forget. The sound and image quality is fantastic as well.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything else.
