Hi.
Quick boiler time question re my daughters new house

She bought an old stone terraced cottage In derbyshirw I’m struggling with the boiler timer
It has a boiler with a click around pull little segments out and push them In based on the 24 hour clock
We had one years ago and they was your timer it was on the front of the boiler

But there’s also a Honeywell home programmable thermostat thing they runs on batteries downstairs

So which is right?
Does the Honeywell home override the boiler?

I’ve turned it up and the heating is great.
So you’d think it’s that but what’s the point of the clock timer unit on the boiler

You should leave the boiler timer on 24hrs and let the Honeywell override it.

That’s safest, as you don’t know how they wired it and may just be wired in like a thermostat.

So I set boiler timer to off and the hand held thermostat was on and nowt happened.
So as per suggestion
I then turned the boiler timer on half an hour either side of the times set on the Honeywell hand held unit and it worked.

Because the boiler timer needs to be set to on 24 hours a day....

To be more accurate, the boiler timer sets the time that the boiler can be active and the thermostat sets the temperature that triggers the boiler when it is active and has no effect when it is not. So if you set the boiler timer to be active at 7am-10am and 4pm-9pm then it will only fire during these times if the ambient temperature is less than the set temperature on the thermostat. If you set it to be on all the time then it will run during the night when everyone is asleep which will keep a constant temperature in the house but at a cost.

Yep. Think of it like two taps in a row. Both have to be open for water to flow. If either one is shut, nothing happens.

Don't over think it.
The programmable stat was probably added at a later date to that of the boiler install.
Either way, doesn't matter one bit.
Just set boiler timer to constant/24hr and program the stat to your requirements. As you'd said basically!
I see this setup/scenario regularly.
It is possible to link out the timer in the boiler so it has no effect, but leaving on 24hrs is just as effective.
