Has anyone got experience of using a boiling water tap in a hard water area? We have a water softener, but the output is not supposed to be drunk. Would the filter that comes with the boiling water tap make the water safe?

Looking at this one. https://www.screwfix.com/p/swirl-3-in-1-instant-bo...

Softened water doesn't taste very nice either, which is a good reason to drink the hard version.

On health/safety, this may be useful: https://clearwaterarizona.com/blog/how-to-make-sof...

Another qettle user here in the hard-water Cotswolds and no issues, using its standard water filter.

With no form of scale control the boiler will suffer from scale very quickly just like your kettle does.

The filter don’t say what it is, it won’t be any form of scale reduction, it will be a carbon filter for taste and pesticides, heavy matals removal.

Have a Qooker since 2017 in the hard water of the Chilterns. All good in the seven years so far.

We live in a hard water area according to our water supplier. The guys who installed our kitchen essentially said they wouldn't worry about water hardness for a Quooker tap, this was when I asked if its worth while installing the Quooker water softener for another £250.

The Quooker website seems to say essentially the same thing, they could have easily said if you live in a hard water area you MUST install their water softener. We descale the coffee machine once every 6 months, it's pretty easy, so I suspect we'll the tap might need the same after a few years of use.

A Quooker system does not require preventive maintenance. However, if you live in an area with hard water, the Quooker system will require some attention during its lifetime.

We descale our Quooker every 2 years or so, did it last year with the service kit available from Quooker but this year we had a problem with the Quooker not working (fast flashing red light) did all the actions that they suggest but was still happening so had to get their service chap out which was £200, said that the thermostat was playing up so replaced it and I was surprised at the pile of scale that had built up in the bottom in just one year. I'm going to give it a service once a year now just to be on the safe side.
