Hello all

I have an electricity pole anchored in my front garden, about 6 inches or so from the highway (no pavement). It has an old-fashioned style lamp on it, which has failed.

This isn't a major drama in itself, although it's the only light for a few hundred yards, it is a handy indicator to uber drivers of where to stop when I'm a little buit pissed and just want to get home. hehe

I have been on my local council website, but there is no "green dot" on the map, so the council don't recognise it as a light, or at least it's not there. There's a green dot 4-500yds up the road so the website is working. If I google western power to report the problem, I just get the Australian wesite instead!

Any ideas?

Use the "FixMyStreet" website.

You can pinpoint the lamp and they do all the work for you.

It's indispensable.

They usually have a number label for identification purposes

FixMyStreet: Leicestershire County Council is one of only a small number of councils that don’t accept reports from FixMyStreet, so you will need to make your report directly to them on their website.

And I can't report a place on a map to my council. rofl

Can't you just give them a What3words location ?

If not, you might have to resort to speaking to someone at the council

Not with this council. If you can't click on their green dot, you can't click "submit"

Does it give an option to add a comment or anything when submitting a problem via that website? If there was, I'd just report the nearest one and add a comment with the location/what three words as suggested.

Not everyone uses What three words

We haven’t received a instruction book from the Government yet

Speak to your local councillor. Get them to chase it up.

It may not be theirs - some are installed by town and parish councils etc at resident request but then means they are not covered by the LA.

Suggest you talk to your councillor

Working out who is responsible for a streetlight can be a nightmare.

It could be the county council(or unitary), that they’ve forgotten about. Could be a parish council one. Could even be housing association, mod, dutchy, private or a long forgotten covenant.

If it's in the OPs garden it might be his!

That’s an old one.

Try your local parish council. It might not be them but they often have an old boy who know who installed things like that.

This, the parish council will love something like this to talk about. We had trouble with our village street lamp and the parish council only took 3 meetings to sort it out.

Do the other poles with lights on have numbers? If so, can you work out a sequence?
