I appreciate this may sound daft, but during a 15/20 minute shower the drain becomes overwhelmed and the water in the bath will be ankle deep, this isn’t normal is it, I’ve had someone out who says the drain ls fine.

It will start off ok but as soon as shampoo/ shower gel enters the equation it starts to back up and not recover until you turn the shower off

If it’s draining slowly, could just need cleaning - put some drain cleaner down

Had this a few times with the old bath/shower and usually a bottle of that Buster stuff sorted it.

I’ve poured some drain cleaner down, makes no difference to the problem

That's a long, long shower.

Has anyone in the household got long hair, which can clog up the drain in my experience

Why are your showers taking 20 minutes?

Next time you have a shower check that you haven't got your heel wedged in the plug hole as that would block it and the bath would fill up.

Also don't wee in it when you shower as the drain isn't designed to cope with that additional water volume.

I actually heard a discussion on the radio about shower pee-ers vs non. They ended up agreeing that it's much more environmentally friendly to pee in the shower than in the loo as the water is draining anyway, while peeing in the loo causes an extra flush, and that everybody should be doing it to save a flush.

Either blocked, the waste is not sufficient for the flow of water or the fall on the drain is not enough.

In light of this information I'll be replacing all of our sinks (kitchen included, you never know) with these ASAP:

Do you have a GU18 postcode by any chance? Could be a Lightwater issue.

A bottle of Buster plughole unblocker should sort it if its just hair and gunk.

Do you use shower gel?
I find some clog up drains more than others.

You must have a massive bladder if it can overwhelm a drain .

I don’t think they know what they’re talking about.

Is this in a domestic property?

Or is it in University halls?

My mates teenage boy was apparently taking 15-20 minutes in the shower. He had his suspicions he was paying particular attention to one part of his body.

Generally, it needs to be left in overnight.

Has it always done this, or is it a recent thing?

What kind of shower have you got? Our electric one over the bath would never do this, the rainfall mains pressure one has a tremendous output if it’s fully on.

We used to get this every six months, which resulted in me removing the bath trap and removing an extremely large blockage of slimy gunk, mainly consisting of long hairs.
