Been looking at the Dewalt lazer levels, mostly due to everything else I have being Dewalt.
Just looked on eBay and there’s some on there for around £90 which when looking anywhere else are at least £200. I assume these will be fake Dewalt items but I thought eBay would not allow fake stuff to be sold. The descriptions don’t obviously say fake. Unless I’m just missing something and they’re genuine but Dewalt made too many and selling for buttons to people!
The model is DW089LG
Any other recommendations for a good level at a decent price. It’s not gonna be used daily so not looking for the best possible.

https://www.temu.com/uk/1pc--ing----cross---and---... When I got it I compared it's accuracy to a mate's dewalt laser level and it was about as accurate.

I fancy a laser level so I looked at those DeWalt offerings on eBay. If you scroll down through the first 20 hits you get to the more “honest” sellers who claim them to be “replicas”. Still branded DeWalt so there’s obviously fakes out there and I would say all the £90 options are probably those.

A laser level has to be spot on so I would probably avoid a clone just in case it’s on the wonk.

You'd be better off paying £100 for a genuine red one. The green one is meant to be better in the daylight but (haven't used it that much tbf) didn't see much difference over the red one tbh when I did. Did just fine for years with the red one and I'm a *joiner*so use the laser quite often although for most things I prefer a bubble.

  • joiner* had a few debates about that one because some of you would say what I do is carpentry and am a carpenter bur round here I do joinery and im a joiner as we dont use the C word smile

That’s what I was thinking. I’d rather pay £90 for a genuine but maybe not quite as good a spec one.

How much more inaccurate will a cheaper level be for DIY distances, rather than civil engineering distances?

I use this and everything looks straight smilehttps://amzn.eu/d/gwqlNCL

The images for the eBay cheap ones match the AliExpress ones. The batteries on them don’t look right.

I have the DeWalt DCE089G18 3 Line Laser which cost £400 and it is possibly my favourite tool and I use it more than I expected as it is so convenient especially for any work involving the ceiling where a laser really comes into its own.

More bad news is that ideally you will also want to purchase a tripod otherwise it can be really difficult to position the unit.

surely a lazer is just a lazer who ever makes it, light doesnt bend, or am i missing something?

The light will only be as level and accurate as the gyroscope it is sent from.

All laser levels are pretty accurate, with some having smaller tolerances over longer distances.

They'll all be more accurate than a bubble biggrin. Rich - I know you aren't saying they aren't, just putting it in perspective.

I bought a laser level from Amazon for less than £30, worked absolutely fine for me (fairly heavy duty DIY).

Have a look at the Bosch Professional ones. They have them as the “Prime Big Deal” an Amazon at present (but still worth price checking).

I have the 2 line with plumb, and the 3 plane versions (both green) and they’re excellent.

Admittedly they don’t use the DeWalt batteries, but they do have the option of using their own rechargeable batter (or AAs) if you plan on using it lots. You can also get detectors for them if you need to use them in conditions that are too bright to see the line.

GLL2-15 (their 2 line green) is £111 on Amazon or £76 for the red GLL2-10. Quick google suggests that green one is more like £180 elsewhere.
