We like to sleep with our windows in the bedroom open all year round. We moved 9 months ago and in the new place, the rain pours in and soaks the wall and carpet regardless of how little it is open. They are normal double glazed side opening windows.

I'm looking for a solution that we can attach when the window is open that will allow airflow but stop the rain but I can only find solutions for sash windows. I'm happy to attempt to make something but what would be the best screen/fabric to use if a product doesnt exist?
?

How about trickle vents, you will have to router/jigsaw your window frames a bit, but shouldn't be too difficult to retro fit.

Fit some sort of controlled ventillation. PIV or mhrv,/mvhr - even one of the through the wall units.

Something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Outopee-Canopy-Awning-Out...

Have you checked your gutters? It doesn't sound right that your wall should be getting soaked with the window only open a crack. Is the rain being driven into the side of your house by the wind? Does your house have flush eaves?

How open do you want the windows?
Assuming they are modern DG windows is putting them on the night catch sufficient?

Thanks for the replies.

We have trickle vents already and usually sleep with them open at least 45 degrees. I've tried the night catch but doesn't cool the room sufficiently as we like it cold.

Drains are fine, it's just the angle of the house and very little eaves overhang. I've always assumed it was wind driven rain but the canopy may help.

i knocked these up in 5 mins as wife was complaining he wasn’t getting enough fresh air ( he still has that look of I’d rather be outside , but wife is having none of it 😂😂) , I’m trying to think what you could fit instead of mesh to stop rain , but can’t think of anything .

The clamp normally has a sock over it , but looks like wife has failed again .

I may just build something that sits in the frame channel that blocks the top and side but allows air through the bottom so an L shaped piece of pvc that can be hooked on and off easily

Yeah I am surprised they are letting in rai, unless its backed by driving winds?

PIV is a good solution tho, nice long thread on here about them somewhere.

Sounds ok , wife just wanted something we could just pop in / out easily ( it takes seconds to take out ) as she was worried about security when away etc , plus had wood doing nothing , zero cost .
