Bought some Stain Stop to treat an area of plasterboard on the kitchen ceiling that's been marked by a leaky shower above but I have been pretty disappointed by it. The coverage is really poor and that's after three coats. Looking at the reviews (too late) I see I'm not alone.
Wondering if the PH hive mind can come up with a better suggestion? TIA

I used several coats of dilute waterbased varnish to seal, then some Dulux undercoat.
It worked, maybe not the ideal materials but what was on the shelf.

Thanks, I don't have those on my shelf, hoping more for a one-stop shop solution! wink

I used the Zinnser in the blue tin, can't remember it's name, but it worked very well.

It doesnt need to cover?

Just apply one coat, and then overcoat with your emulsion of choice?

We will be painting it properly in the near future but I didn't want to have the stain potentially showing through the new paint as it seemed it would do, the Stain Stop not having done what it was claiming to do on the tin (pic below).
I bought the Zinsser Cover Stain as suggested and that does appear to have worked. thumbup
