I have a Bosch PMF190E multi tool which uses the triangular 93mm sanding sheets.

Also a PEX12E Bosch sander which uses the 125mm circular sanding sheets.

With both machines the pad to which the sheets adhere are worn out. Bosch replacements seem to get poor reviews with sanding sheets frequently detaching.

Can anyone recommend replacement pads that actually work?

Perhaps get a pad saver / interface pad? That may help.

The genuine backing pads should be absolutely fine (I ran a Bosch PEX 400 for years on the original pad) - are you using decent quality paper? I have switched to mostly Festool and Mirka sand paper. But even cheaper paper doesn't detach or fly off.

The other thing is turn the speed down (full speed is unnecessary for most sanding), don't apply pressure and turn the vac down as well if you can. All create heat which kills off paper and backing pads.

That there is proper Top Tip stuff.

I have the same 190e multitool, and even on the lowest speed the hook and loop sandpaper doesn't last very long before it falls off.

I don't really bother with it for sanding and use actual sanders, which do run slower, plus using much coarser paper than you might expect.40-60 grit sounds brutal but it's really not bad for removal\initial prep.

I'll certainly give better quality papers a try.

Use 3M Xtract Cubitron II disks. They're the best sanding disks available, not cheap, but they last much longer.

You'll need a new backing plate if you've worn out the velcro on yours, something like this:

I have a DeWalt 125mm Orbital Sander

I use Bosch Expert M480 80 / 120 / 180 Grit Mesh Wood Sanding Net Starter Kit 125mm 7 Pack

This pack includes a backing pad which goes between the sander and paper.

I use these too. Amazing performance and great dust extraction with a vacuum.

You have to have an amazon price alert and pick them up when they're cheap.

I didn't know that they were available for multitools - I'll have a google
