We have an ongoing issue which means I need to replace our roof tiles on a listed building from a non compliant version to a compliant version. What this means is I need to look through a website or catalogue of roof tiles ideally and mark out half a dozen examples and then get a price on them as I don't want to end up choosing a super expensive "artisan made" tile when a simple classic clay pantile is all that's required for the job.

The trouble is I've had a look online and while some places have a bit of a selection online, most tend to be quote only, and they tend to have their own suppliers so no one seems to have a really good range (that I've found). All I really want at this stage is a short list of tiles that will do the job and a per tile or per pack price so I can compare them.

Any suggestions beyond mkm etc?

What has the Conservation Officer said would be “compliant”?

That really needs to be your starting point, especially if you might consider reclaimed?

They haven't yet, we will need to submit sample/s and let them choose. Its probably beneficial they aren't willing to say "it needs to be the xyz tile" as no doubt that one would be heinously expensive.

Absolutely don't want reclaimed.

Thankyou, they don't seem to stock pantiles, just flats, I have just got off the phone with a supplier though that I can go and have a look at on sat at least.

If it’s pantiles you’re after then see if you can find a tile supplier in Suffolk, half the houses here are in pantiles.

What is it about your existing tiles that is non-compliant, and how long have they been there?

Wienerberger make pantiles. You might be able to find a local stockist on the following page.

Get the conservation officer to specify what is required. I.e he/she provide examples on manufacturer and type. Easy to order then.

Can't you go to a few local salvage yards and ask them, they'll likely be able to help advise who locally may have what you need or have industry contacts.

Re claimed always look better if your matching up or replacing in an area where everything else is old , I ran a roofing company for years and re claim always looked better , and we always got more compliments on the finished job .

Agree with this. Our house isn't listed, but we had an extension built at the same time as a near-neighbour was having a loft conversion done with a big box dormer on the back. We used his old roof tiles, and of course they were more or less a perfect match - difficult to achieve otherwise, with ~55yo Marley concrete Double Romans on the older part!

Just had roofs redone on two properties, one using reclaimed Welsh slate, the other using Staffordshire blues and they look so much better than if they’d been done with new materials. New would have been way to crisp for what we wanted and would have aged differently to others nearby.

Bit surprised that the OP’s CO isn’t saying that they need to be reclaimed if available. Ours is definitely of that mindset.

Pantiles are easy to get hold of, can’t see what the drama is ?

What area are you ? Avoid SIG, one of the dearest there is. JJ are good, as are All Type. But it depends on your location.

A quick Google for Yorkshire area.
