Install Porch Lights
Discussion
Can't get a local spark to even quote for this job so DIY it is.
I want to put 2 x downlights in the soffit, one on either side of the door, central to the brickwork to each side of the door.
The outdoor socket was a relocated indoor socket so I assume part of the ring as it has 2 x 2.5mm feeds and the indoor socket is blanked off. Am I permitted to spur off this socket, trunk to single FCU in a water-tight box above, then trunk a supply up to the soffit and then feed both lights? Will be T+E 1.5mm.
The lights are Philips Hue bulbs inside an IP65 downlight enclosure, controlled separately and do not need to be switched internally.
Second, I haven't stripped out fascias before. It looks like if I can take the gutter on the right hand side off, remove the nail fixings for the fascia, then I should have access into the soffit/fascia area?

Do you need to remove the fascia - can you drill in situ and rod the cables round?
Not sure what the roof construction is or if there's room up there.
I'm hopeful that I can poke the cable around the corner and pick it up without stripping out the fascia but you how these jobs go...........Not sure what the roof construction is or if there's room up there.
This might not suit you, but I sorted a similar issue with a battery powered PIR LED light in my porch some years ago. It was mainly to get a decent light on the door lock when coming home at night and I get around a year to 18 months out of a set of AA batteries - the LED's are more than bright enough. Lots of buying options on the web and most seem to be IP65 or better and can use simple screw fixings or even a 3M sticky pad.
Just a thought.
