I currently have an aging Honeywell alarm, wired PIR's etc. It does the job but really could do with updating the main unit and control pads.

Needs to wired as would like to use the existing PIRs, although the option to add wireless stuff would be nice.

Needs to have a network connection so I can monitor it and set it remotely via an app, ideally no subscription. Don't need remote monitoring by a company.

Not too bothered about remote fobs or similar, but would be a nice option.

I''ll be self installing.

Recommendations?

You'd need to go wireless & buy new PIR detectors - Pyronix.

Reliable, app control, etc.

Thanks, yes have been looking, they do a hybrid Euro76 alarm which might work for me.

Can you explain why you're recommending wireless when the OP already has wired PIRs

I've fitted a Ring alarm system to my house, which is completely wireless and requires a subscription for all the features so those are the downsides to you but it has been a very good system so far, very easy to setup and install, app works very well and remote monitoring and control is very good, also links in to my Ring camera system for full integration.

If the alarm activates all my cameras start recording automatically.

Thanks, don't want Ring or anything similar. Really want a wired or hybrid system, just something I can access remotely and set/reset and get notification if it goes off.

I fitted a Texecom system in our old house which worked fine, added a gsm unit so that it notified me when triggered and think you could set/unset etc although never used that feature. Sure they'll do something with networking\smart features these days

We had Texecom fitted about a year ago.

Our installers didn't want to do "wired" - I got the impression most don't these days. Difficult to route wires under laminate floors etc - so all of ours are battery.
Ours was a nightmare at first - it wouldn't set half the time - but they eventually sorted it and it's been fine since.

There is a phone app - you can set / unset / get notifications when the alarm goes off (although ours hasn't - no false alarms yet), when other people set / unset it.
It seems to work OK but the app is a bit crap really. On my g/f's iphone it keeps removing the fingerprint login - she has to uninstall and reinstall it. But it's been fine for the rest of us on a mix of iphone and android. It's not exactly slick - but it seems to do the job.

Ring does this and for free, you only pay if you want the monitoring side of the alarm.
Don't write it off without checking it out, very good value too in my opinion.

There's no need to change to wireless, or to buy new PIRs. A panel upgrade is fine if there's no problems with the existing install, eg, false alarms.

Have a rummage through somewhere like https://alertelectrical.com/alarms-and-cctv/burgla...

I'm personally wary of anything that relies on the manufacturer's own infrastructure, eg, "cloud" setups, as you remain dependent on them supporting that platform - take the (slight) pain of doing some setup work to avoid obsolesence later.

I was in the same situation a few years ago. Main control box had gone pop after 20 years but the wired PIR’a were all working. I contacted a local alarm company and they fitted a new control box and pad. Was less than £500 from memory.

Texecom Premier Elite, allows wired, wireless or any other combination. Infinitely expandable, control from your phone, voice diallers if you want. Really well thought out.

This any good?

I've not used one, but considered it in previous house with knackered old alarm with wired sensors.

Going back a few years but we had a wired set up and changed the panel to https://riscogroup.com/en/ in our old (now a rental) house.

It did need wiring into the router but no monthly fees etc but plenty of functionality such as adding/deleting alarm codes, giving different codes to family members etc so you knew who was coming and going if that's what you need as well as the alerts etc.

Yep - Ajax alarm system here too - very good and easy install (even though they claim it's dealer supply and install only).

The new line s now pro only

Except you can just register for a pro account and that allows you to install even the superior line wink

Do either of you have pets (cats specifically)? I was planning on going for Ajax but the people selling the kit kept on saying the cats will easily set it off...
