Any up to date information on the best ?

I have had a google hello on mains power for the last 2 years. Been pretty good, laggy though.

Moved house and left that there so looking for a new one.

Last owner had a ring but took it - so now have 4 holes that I need to cover so logic says get a ring. Are they any good?

I already have a Nest aware subscription though...

Any suggestions?

I’ve gone ubiquiti pro.

No subscription.

But you need a network hard drive to store the footage. I happen to have UniFi for my access points and cameras generally though so it totally made sense.

We've got ring. Mostly works seamlessly. We've got 2 batteries so no down time. Occasional connection issues. They are definitely not the best, but they work for us.

I dropped Ring because the connection was poor, the microphone was st and they wanted £90 a year.

I've now got Reolink, and it's significantly better. No subscription (uses a microSD), and cost less than a year's subscription to Ring.

I've also got a Reolink and have been very impressed with it - good image quality (reasonable nighttime performance too), AI person detection, highly configurable etc. Local storage if desired but it also integrates with most NVR systems given its support for open protocols. Proprietary offsite streaming via Reolink's servers and app without subscription.

Went with eufy. No subscription cost and you can add cameras to the same homebase unit fairly cheaply, then see them all through the same mobile app.

I've got Reolink.

3 security cameras and one doorbell.

PoE powered, record to an SD card, no subscription cost, and the app / sensitivity works pretty well.

I'd recommend them and they tend to be even cheaper on amazon black friday days

Are there any decent ones that are less than the size of a house brick? Serious q., they all seem huge, I'd have one but for the size.

I've got a Ring Elite - powered via PoE (power over ethernet) and fits pretty much flush. Works really well and would recommend it - notifications through to my phone within a second or so.

Well, it was a silly question, given you wanted proper information. wink

My Reolink is smaller than the Ring was. Think Range Rover Vogue versus Range Rover Sport.

HTH.

I’ve had the Tapo wireless one for the last week.

Full disclosure, I already had a few Tapo cameras dotted around the place. Made sense that everything was in the same app.

Happy with it so far, does everything you’d expect. Only slight issue is that the battery is going to last nowhere near the supposed amount of time. Meh, simple enough to remove and charge.

Records to an sd card you put in the supplied hub/chime. No ongoing subscription nonsense.

One man's deliberate and very obvious hyperbole is another one's silly I guess.

Not to worry.

Cheers all. I think we are going to go with Ring. The 4 holes drilled into the stone facia are giving me the ick big time and I cant unsee it so it seems the 2 options I am looking at (Eufy and Google) are both going to leave 2 of those holes exposed.

Will probably get it on Amazon so if it really is hot garbage I can return it easily.

It's Google's birthday event today so the nest doorbell is available for £129.99. Seems very good value compared to its usual price

Having never had any sort of 'smart' doorbell or home security before we bought a Ring Battery Plus and three camera's last week as Mrs B has decided she wants to have the reassurance of CCTV. I'm not sure why now, but I wasn't going to argue, I suspect some deep seated fear that Raquel Reeves might go door to door at some point in the future may be behind it.

Anyhow I did a quick bit of research (mostly Pistonheads based biggrin) but quite honestly not as much as I would normally put into a tech purchase as I'm not really going to be the end user.

We settled on Ring for ease of installation, apparent quality of the product and the ease of use of the ring app and 'ecosystem'. I have to say I'm really quite impressed, ok really very impressed.

The installation was absolutely problem free, the kit seems beautifully made, the app is excellent and the integration of the camera's is effectively perfect. In actual use alerts etc are pretty much instantaneous and the battery drain seems to be a trickle.

I will no doubt start complaining when they raise the subscription price next year but for now it's all been absolutely hassle free and meeting the needs of my client perfectly.... Not much does that come to think of it.....
