Any online carpet calculators for budgeting?
Discussion
Im starting an extension in February and although all the build costs are fully quoted for, I now need to factor in the finishes.
I sent the proposed floorplans to 2 carpet companies that I have used a few times but neither were happy to quote from floorplans and want to wait until the build is done to measure up.
For me to get an idea of budget, is there any online carpet fitting calculators that I could use for an idea?
If it was just one standard room I could do some rough m2 calculations, but from what the carpet fitters have told me, its the position and stair winders that can have the greatest effect on price, along with wastage.
Other rooms will be tiled or LVT, so all I am looking for is a rough cost for stairs and 22m2 room to be carpeted (i have picked the carpet already which is £39per m2)

Basically, know what widths the carpet comes in. Typically 4m.
Then you will pay for the 4m x length needed.
A good indy carpet shop will tell you this and give you a guide price, which won't be final until they've measured up.
Don't forget the cost of the underlay, which can be cut more with more joins.
The places with cheap headline prices make their money on the underlay.
Most towns have a carpet firm which does a lot of work for pubs, hotels, holiday lets or whatever.
Order anything you want from a sample book and the whole deal often works out competitive with the retail sheds.

I bought direct from a supplier once, they were very helpful and basically said measure up and add 100mm. I would have thought carpet fitters should be able to quote from a drawing. Maybe adding 150mm for a bit more wriggle room.
As above I saved a load by fitting my own quality underlay, which really isn't hard. Used a carpet fitter suggested by the supplier who was sound.

If they quote from a drawing they'll be worried that their system doesn't note that fact, someone will forget to actually measure the finished build and then turn up with the wrong size carpet.
Anyway, tradepriced.co.uk will save you a fortune in underlay and grippers. Let the carpet places quote for everything, then have them remove the over-priced bits. That's how you get the best price.

It’s also how you ps off your fitter before they even strike a blow. Profit is built into the supply part of the quote for a lot of companies. To add to the thread , it would be better with a picture of the plan or actual pics, awkward winding stair cases are obviously more time consuming than a standard staircase or square room.

Not my experience, added a fitting charge for the underlay and grippers, was about £50 extra, took half an hour. Saved £100 just on the grippers.
You need to bear in mind that the price of grippers and underlay is wild - £2 a length Vs £25 for an entire box, £8 a square metre vs £2.
That’s fair enough, if I was quoting I’d be a bit miffed if the client let me do a full quote to find out my labour rate, if they asked for a fitting only quote then It would be no problem but letting someone measure up for you and build a quote out isn’t the proper way to do things imo. I imagine if there’s a fault with any of the materials your on your own too. Although I suppose that’s down to individuals if it’s worth the risk/saving.You need to bear in mind that the price of grippers and underlay is wild - £2 a length Vs £25 for an entire box, £8 a square metre vs £2.
