I have had a look and most suggest memory foam, which is the devils pillow. I prefer good old plucked feathers. I purchased 2 from M&S last year and they are ok, but I find they go flat at the edge my head is on and all ruffle up behind, offering no support. I also then hate the flappy bit. Previously I've had squared edged and they were great, but can't seem to find them anymore.

So:

Non-memory foam
Firm as
square edge
some form of down

pls help

We bought a new mattress a few years ago from Dreams. When we went in and were testing mattresses we were also given a selection of pillows to try.

I ended up spending £300 on x2 pillows, which still strikes me as a somewhat ludicrous amount of money. HOWEVER, they are absolutely worth it - it's the same as spending out on a decent mattress really and has an equal impact on the quality of sleep.

Another vote for John Lewis, ours are 10 or 11 years old now and starting to get feathers poking through so due replacement, but I don't think that's a bad lifespan.

A £75 JL pillow here too.

By nature feather pillows need regular/frequent plumping up.

I think for pillows it's best to visit a good retailer (PJ/JL!) and try them out.

I gather there are also now foam pillows with chopped-up foam inside, which give a different feel.

My go to was always debenhams for bedding, but now the mainstream choices are Dulelm of JL really.

Certainly if you want to at least give it a squish before parting with your cash.

Personally I don't like foam or most hollowfibre, and just plump for a fairly middle of the range mixed feather filled jobba.

When I have had issues with neck pain (routed in being tense and anxious) I have shimmed the pillow up and inch or two using a folded up towel.

Diazepam also works as a short term fix, but for good reasons, they never give you much!

Or you could do what my wife is doing, which is order 1 expensive pillow every 2 weeks from all the online pillow specialists, then return most of them when they aren't right.

Expensive but they last for ever.

Had two about 8 years ago. had to buy two more because Wifey kept pinching mine!! They do need plumping up every night but that's normal with down. The trick is to put put them in the washing machine every 2 to 3 months and dry them in the tumble drier and they're like new thumbup

Hungarian Goose - that rings a bell; I think that's what the JL one was. You can push them into any shape you like.

Tried a few.

These and Brook & Wilde seemed to be the best...

Look out for discount codes for the latter...they're expensive even with one!

Also bought some GX pillows. OK, but not as good as the above.

Also, should have said originally, but are you plumping/turning your pillows?

Pick them up and drop them 2-3ft into their edge, 3-5 times if the are bad.
