what evergreen is this?

Hi all i planted this as a small shrub and it has grown rapidly over about a year but i just cant remember what it is, anyone have an idea? thx.

That isn't bay laurel. Looks to me me like Portuguese laurel.

Bay is very easy to identify from smelling a crushed leaf.

Cherry laurel (not a true laurel) doesn't have sweet smelling leaves and may have a faint bitter almond smell (cyanide).

The flowers/fruits are a good way of getting a good ID.

I’ve got one. It will grow into a very big bush needing a chainsaw to cut, if you let it.

Thank you all.

Its not Bay Laurel as i have one of those and this is different, no smell or small flower on it.

Portuguese cherry laurel it is then.

Thank the app ‘picture this’ plant finder.
I just use the free bits. Lots of pop ups to upgrade but best ignored… quite handy App if you see something on a walk and think I’d like one of those…

I have one in my garden. I have deliberately let it grow to provide structure in the garden. I have hidden an 8×6 shed behind it. You can just see the shed on the left. They provide great shelter for wildlife.
