EU new ERP regulations for lamps?
Discussion
Any of the lighting experts on Pistonheads know anything about bulbs? I use what are often called 'squirrel cage' bulbs in my outside lanterns and because the lanterns are clear glass I use a larger bulb that just looks better in the lanterns.
I just bought a box of bulbs and they turned out to be smaller than expected. I contacted the manufacturer and they have replied to say that they've reduced the size of the bulb to comply with new 'EU ERP regulations for lamps'. I had a quick skim of the regulations and it talks bout labeling and minimum outputs per watt but nothing dictating how big (or small) the bulb can be. Sounds like 'shrinkflation' bullst to me...
Old bulb on the right, replacement on the left. Same manufacturer and same SKU, just less glass in the manufacture of it...

The filaments (LEDs) look different to me, so my guess they've changed the functional parts of the bulb to comply with new legislation which reduced the size of the glass needed.
Thanks, yes now you point it out I can see that the 4 LED strips are shorter but have the same lumens output so you're probably correct. RichB said:

I would send them a copy of the regs and ask them to point out the bit about size as you can't find it.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
