New boiler quote from British Gas

I’ve not had any other quotes to compare with.
Think there are some benefits with British Gas, apparently the quote is what the price will and after care service.

Total c.£3500 to replace in same place.
Boiler in kitchen

Can spread cost over 4years 0% at around £65/month after £300 ish deposit.

Any advice , feedback welcomed

Mad price. How many times are.they treating the water, and the waste pipe is £123? It should already be there, as should the electrics.

I thought it was sparkies who earned the big bucks.

Paid 2.1k for slightly more work and a boiler that cost £1150.

We had all that + replacement radiator for £1800.

BG are shisters. Any local boiler installer will do what you want for less than £2000 tops.

We got a 13 year warranty for our boiler as long as we get it serviced once a year. Service is £70. No other maintenance fees or parts insurance needed.

For context, my FIL paid over the odds for BG to install his boiler. Quoted a similar amount.

Took 2 people 2 days to fit it (they had seriously underestimated how long it takes to remove a floor mounted boiler the size of a washing machine)

Anyway, as he went from a gravity fed system to a pressurised combi, over the course of 6 months nearly all the 40 year old radiators started to leak. BG replaced each and every one of them under the warranty for the install.

Suddenly wasn't so expensive.

So they broke all his radiators by fitting a different system and had to replace them?

Doesnt sound very competent.

Surprised they didn't quote £6k, take it or leave it you fking pauper.
A decent local heating engineer should be about £1500. Don't get taken in by this 'extended warranty' or pay £1k PA for a warranty st. You'll be very, very unlucky if your new boiler has parts failures in 5 years, up to 10yrs it'll cost peanuts in parts and maintenance.

Ridiculous price. Why is the water treatment not included in the already too high labour? Also an ecofit pure on an old system will more than likely leak from the aluminium heat exchanger. Go for something with a stainless heat ex.
Realistically most gas people would be expecting to make in the region of 1k profit on a job like this which includes mark up on materials. You could save a fortune straight away just by going to BOXT and getting a wocester, I’ve only heard good things about their work (do an odd bit of contracting for them as well) and generally would be about 1k cheaper than what you’ve been quoted.

Edit : just noticed that BG only a give a 5 year guarantee on a boiler that from any approved installer gives you a ten year guarantee. Jokers.

You couldn’t buy the equivalent parts for that
Maybe if you had the cheapest of the cheap boiler. But that wouldn’t end well.
(the vailant boiler comes with a 10 year warranty free of charge, if fitted by registered person / serviced / magnaflow fitted)
The parts will be around 2k all in

They’re obviously going to have costs that a one-man band doesn’t have and the price, using that boiler, doesn’t seem totally bonkers. We had them quote for exactly the same job in 90’s and it was £4K, so on that basis they’ve really cut their prices.

I ended up replacing it myself, IIRC boiler was £600.
