Hi All, a little help if I may.

I've recently come across the following picture:

And wondered if any of you guys could assist with information. I'm told it was taken in July 1929. It's in Pangbourne, Berkshire. So any ideas what regiment it is and/or why they'd be marching like that in 1929 - 11 years after WW1 and 10 years before WW2.

Extra points for Identifying the car in the foreground.... Well, this is Pistonheads...

Why am I asking? The house in the background is mine and I've been collecting as many images of it through the years as I can. This is my latest addition and peaked my curiosity. My oldest is a photo (glass slide, actually) from 1896...

What a photo! Love seeing stuff like this.

You'd be better off sticking this in The Lounge, though. We could probably tell you the lens type, F stop used and ISO but a wider viewing may get you what you need!

Can't help with almost any other question but I had a look at Wikipedia for events in July 1929 and only two seemed possible relevant, both at the end of the month;

Troops were massed in the capitals of countries all over Europe over fears that communists would stage general strikes and riotous demonstrations on August 1 to mark International Red Day.

500,000 cotton workers in Britain went on strike in protest of their wages being cut by 12.5 percent.

The other main event that month was that King George V was in and out of hospital having operations as he started his health decline, so a chance that could be relevant too..

This would be better in the Lounge with a title such as ‘Help with old military photo’.

The cap badge looks like a blured version of this, if you squint: https://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/british_regiment...

So i'd assume royal berks regiment which would make sense.

As for why they're marching.... who knows. Leaves on the trees people aren't wrapped up too well so it's probably not remembrance day (not sure that was a thing as early as 1929). Could just be a summer show or something.

They are men of 2nd Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment.
In July 1929 they took part in a recruiting march throughout the county, which included their annual commemoration of the Battle of Maiwand on 27th July.
