All, I've extended a dethatched garage - and have an electrical sectional door for the front opening.

What I need to find now is a back door which accesses the garden. The opening is 1.8m wide, so this would accommodate a double door.

Any suggestions or recommendations on a double external door? Budget wise - don't want to spend £2k if I can avoid it, but want something strong with multi point locks etc.

Let me know what you have and what you suggest, cheers

Where are you based?

I have a builder friend (N.Dorset) who I know has built and installed wooden double barn style doors to the rear of a garage.

I looked at some of Latham's Steel Doors recently and was impressed. They are quite reasonably priced too.

I have a Lathams steel single door. Very solid.

North London, may be a bit far from Dorset unfortunately!

yes this is on my shortlist, but the cost fitted does approach £2k. Fitters want around £600+ to fit one of these doors, they weigh around 200kg.

Just seeing if there are any alternatives?

Excellent, I have also come across these guys:

Anyone looked at these and compared to Latham? I know Latham are made in China, all doors in this price range probably are....

I have bought and fitted several of their single doors and was what I was going to suggest getting. Really like them as they don’t warp and are very solid. The only thing I don’t like about the product are their choice of euro cylinders, but they’re easy to change for better ones.

They’re surprisingly easy to fit DIY. Did one of their ~100kg ones single handed but they are undoubtedly easier to do if there’s a couple of you.

Assuming there’s nothing overly complex when it comes to the double doors it won’t even be a half day’s job for two blokes.

Their delivery is usually on their own vans. Not sure if you can pay extra for a two man delivery and/or specify times but worth checking as ours always seem to arrive at an ungodly early hour.

Bumping this as there are plenty of threads for main garage doors, but fewer for personnel doors. Although mine is a single door on the side of the garage, rather than a double on the back.

Latham’s were in my radar, from Harry’s Farm videos, so it is good to know that they are recommended.
