Updating our kitchen and getting a new sink and mixer tap – what tap brands are the better quality ones and not ridiculously expensive?

Looking to spend around £100-120 on it, are we talking Franke, Bristan? Any other recommendations?

Just a regular swan neck mixer tap required, just don’t want a cheapo one from Victoria plumb that will be knackered and dripping in 12 months time.

Cheers

We fitted a Franke Planar swan-neck tap back in 2008 ( to match Franke sink) excellent tap which is still going strong today - I've just checked price and its now @£330 to buy FFS......

We have a standard Bristan kitchen mixer swan neck for the last 12 years or so and is only just starting to signs of leaking, so i will replace with the same. More expensive but has lasted well with all the use it gets.

I've been using Bristan all the way round, seems decent VFM.

For the kitchen mixer consider one of those with a flexible hose for swooshing down the sink.

A little above your budget at £170, I put a slightly older version of this Grohe tap with pull-out extension in the kitchen 6 years ago and it has worked perfectly with no issues. We are also in a hard water area, which tends to cause more issues with taps leaking/dripping etc..

I've had Franke before but the finish is only guaranteed for a year, just swapped out for Grohl excellent quality and very pleased. Paid £110 so not expensive V Franke.

We have this one from Wickes. We went for the brushed chrome as it in south facing window and didnt want it to be too shiny in the sun.
The same tap in different finishes is cheaper.

We had to wait a couple of months for the tap after our kitchen was fitted as it was on back order so made do with a cheapo b&q £30 tap and then replaced it ourselves.

Fitted a Franke Ascona into our kitchen back in 2015....which is a low to mid range model (£110), and its been fine considered it gets hammered most days. Have had to change a cartridge on the cold and also the aerator nozzle, but that's only to be expected in a very hard water area. Spares also readily available.

However, what I would say, is that since doing our kitchen, we have also replaced our bathroom and cloakroom.....using Hansgrohe brassware throughout and it is fair to say that look and robust feel of the Hansgrohe stuff is of a much higher quality than that of or Franke....

We have this in our kitchen - has been in coming up to 4 years now and I would agree with you, it just works perfectly every time. You can tell it's a quality item and will last. German companies just seem to do this sort of stuff a lot better than anyone else...

Franke for kitchens, Bristan for bathrooms, Mira for shower mixers has been my preferred approach.

Same. Mine has had 2-3 cartridges replaced, if you contact Franke they should send you them FOC, they are expensive to buy! The 1st set were a nightmare to remove, they’ve changed the design slightly now!
Mine is starting to leak where the neck joins the base.

Pretty much anything Bristan or Grohe seems to be good. We went for a Grohe in the end but just on the design and are happy with it. Parents have a Bristan and it's been fine.

Our not-cheap Franke Eiger kitchen mixer tap has been utter sh!te. Every 10 to 12 months it just starts dripping and the ceramic disc thingies need replacing

What should I be looking at as a quality replacement that will actually last for more than a year without failing? Grohe?

2.5 further years have passed since I last posted in this thread and the sink tap has aged equally and whilst still fully operational, it has needed yet further replacement parts.

However, our Hansgrohe taps else where in the house have been utterly faultless - if the budget allows, i'd recommend Hansgrohe or Grohe.
