Not sure if this is the best forum...

Elderly parents have decided to move back to the UK after 15 years in Italy. They are selling up and need to bring belongings and certain furniture items back.

Can anyone recommend some removal providers that might work in this situation? I would think that a UK based firm would be best....drive there to collect things, then drive back. I have no faith in an Italian firm doing a decent job, or even getting it right.

Thanks in advance.

No experience of this company but they seem to have decent reviews.

Free online quote to get an idea of costs.

I used these guys in August last year. Full extra large Mercedes’ van (one of those with curtain sides that you see), moved our stuff from Gloucestershire to Lyon in France. Cost us £1100 all in, including customs etc etc.
Very easy Process, guy turned up, loaded up in about an hour and met him at the French house 24 hours later.

Cheap as chips and great service. Let me know if you want a direct contact number/address.

With close family in Italy too, I agree that you won't want an Italian firm anywhere near this....

I don't know how much stuff you're talking about, what sort of furniture or how valuable or delicate any of it is. If there is anything needing special care and handling, the best guys to use are Abels. Definitely not the cheapest in the marker, but, undoubtedly, the best at what they do.

Can't help with specific company recommendations, but try to find a UK company which has Italian partners. When I moved from UK to NL I used a Dutch company, and they initially sent round an assessor from thier UK partner to work out what volume I had, then the removals guys came from NL with a pair of 20' ISO containers to do several pickups, including transferring a load from thier UK partner, before heading to NL with it. The assessor's estimate was spot on too.

Hi Steviesam, sent you a PM yesterday....did you get it?

Been on the phone with Abels this morning....they came across as absolute professionals...and with a price lower than I expected.
Traslo also came back with a very similar quote, but I didn't get the same vibe.
Will speak with Lenyxgroup next, hopefully.

Thanks everyone for your input on this so far. I'll keep you updated.

I would also get some tax advise.

I don’t know how wealthy they are ( or are not ) but they will be changing tax regimes and I would find out if there is benefit to doing things under the Italian laws pre leaving

I have just done the same after living in Italy for 15 years. The biggest expense is removals around 11k.

pm me if you need any more info!

DB Schenker had an office in Como that specialised in high end furniture shipments.

They did house moves too, so may be able to at least point you in the right direction.
