Seems to be a minefield out there for mattresses now.
You used to buy spring mattresses, then Memory Foam came along and now there seems to be hybrids.
Whats everyone view on Emma? they have sale on.
They are quite highly rated by Which? You used to buy spring mattresses, then Memory Foam came along and now there seems to be hybrids.

Ikea are also well rated and much cheaper. I have no first hand experience of either make.
I had a Sealy Orthopedic mattress which lasted for 8-9 years when it wore out I bought an Emma having seen all the reviews and hype about them
initially I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. However I found it to be generally very poor quality and the outer fabrics were falling apart after 6 months and it was gone in under 12.
Replaced with another Sealy instead which is sprung with a built in cushion topper and in my opinion is far better.

I thought I'd bought a decent mattress in the current one but hasn't lasted five years.initially I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. However I found it to be generally very poor quality and the outer fabrics were falling apart after 6 months and it was gone in under 12.

Lots of advice and opinion about mattresses here; I've read most of them and still can't decide...

It’s beyond me how people don’t spend decent money on a decent mattress given the impact it can have on quality of life. People will accept £5000 pa depreciation on a car and then boast about spending only £100 on a mattress.
Some people claim they can get on with foan, latex & Emma mattresses, many can’t. Conversely I’ve never heard anyone complain about a decent natural fibre mattress like ViSpring or John Ryan.
We now only have ViSpring mattresses. We tried cheaper “equivalents” in our holiday homes but it was a false economy and we ended up swapping them all out. All our guests comment on the quality of sleep they get.
About £5000 for a Super King is the sweet spot in the ViSpring range IMO, it should last 15 years or so.

£5k for a super king?! I thought my Tempur at £2.5k was extravagant.
£5k is the economy range...https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-the-...
1 word. Hot. We have one. I don't have any issues rolling over. Good for stability when you do roll over and and doesnt wobble the other side of the bed (but a good pocket spring one will do this too)
If you like a warm bed it's for you, if not (seems like most men don't) it might not be. We'll be getting a traditional one next.

Never tried an Emma or any of the hybrid mattress things, but I did once spend over £1k on a memory foam mattress and my god it was awful. I'd wake up boiling hot, often having to have a shower in the middle of the night I was sweating that much. Also struggled when turning over and rolling back into the indentation my body had made from my previous position.
I eventually won the argument with the shop and got it collected and refunded, but only because I had kept one of the labels that claimed it was designed by NASA to regulate body temperature. Pocket sprung all the way now. My next bed will be a Hypnos or Vispring.

I have a John Ryan artisan bespoke 002 (I think that's the name of it) that I purchased around 5 years ago.
Last month I bought an Emma premium for the guest room. Ummed and arr'd as always.
Have slept on the Emma only once to give it a go, given that it only cost around 1/5 of the JR, I don't have any complaints.
It doesn't feel like other memory foam mattresses that I've slept on, just feels like a nice enough mattress.
Not a great in depth review I'll admit!

We tried the Emma and found it awful. Top layer too soft, bottom layer too firm, smelt awful, no bolster support. It awoke my sciatica after 1 night (from an old motorbike accident) that I hadn't suffered in 5 years.
Returns process was a nightmare, they kept on cancelling the collection and not letting us know, took about 3 months to get rid of the damn thing.

My bed doesn't live outside my home to tell everyone how well I'm doing in life. On a serious note. I think most the difference in quality isnt tangible enough to make the jump. It's hard to know that your investment is going to lead to a better night's rest whereas it's easy to see the value proposition between say a Kia (all you need) and that Mercedes-Benz you've always wanted.
I say this as a person with a Simba bed as our primary and a mix of an old visprung and M&S specials in our secondary bedrooms.
The Simba isn't bad at all. Yes it won't last as long as the others but for a the money it represents gvfm
