Those of you that sometimes go in The May Fair hotel for drinks or meetings will know what I'm talking about here... the absolutely amazing smell that permanently fills the public areas of the hotel.

I asked about it, and the concierge told me that it's a liquid fragrance diffuser system that constantly mists fragrance into the hotel HVAC system.

Essentially, I want my house to smell as amazing as a fancy hotel every time I walk in biggrin

Clearly, my home doesn't have a HVAC system, but I have discovered you can buy mini home fragrance diffusers with built in fan for dispersion.

Does anyone have any experience with these electric fragrance diffusers for home use, and can you recommend one and also recommend some nice smelling fragrance liquids to go with it.

Thanks!

My wife has 3 Asakuki diffusers dotted around the house, she tends to use fresh linen, cotton and sea spray flavours.

She also loves those wax melt things too, our house smells like a handbag.

My OH bought an Asakuki diffuser too. Not sure what liquid she put in it, but it actually smells really nice. Not overpowering, just a nice background aroma.

We also apparently spend a fortune on candles. Used to be Jo Malone stuff but apparently Aldi or Lidl do some pretty much exact replicas for fractions of the cost.

(Fortunately we have yet to get to handbag levels of fragrance...if anything goes missing in there it's gone forever as far as I'm concerned).

£93?! Jesus, I’m in the wrong job laugh

My wife’s electric diffuser has WiFi and led’s etc and they were only £30 plus another £10 for some oils to go in it.

Pretty sure the scent diffuser in the Mayfair hotel isn’t WiFi with LEDS.

We've just bought a humidifier for our bedroom. It's possible to add essential oils to it so I too would be grateful for recommendations, particularly for any that would help my O/H to sleep better.

I’m sure it isn’t, but an electric diffuser with Frankincense essential oils will do the same job at home.

£93 for a Reed diffuser is bonkers, you can get them for a tenner in Dunelm unless the one you linked to is made from unicorn piss?

Had a similar desire after a trip to the Hotel Lutetia in Saint Germain.

This was the answer:

Smells amazing and fortunately it last a long time too, probably a year out of a 500ml version. Hate to think what the hotel spends on them!

I asked the Concierge in there one day and he told me it was an industrial diffuser system by 'Brand Aroma' and the fragrance liquid used was "lemongrass but tweaked to their own requirements" also from Brand Aroma.

Interesting, as I was just looking at those Asakuki diffusers on Amazon. This one seems a bargain for £22?

Agreed, who'd buy a Ferrari when a Nissan Micra can still get you from A to B.

Seriously, If you pay more, generally, you get a better scent made from natural ingredients that will last longer, project more in a nicer bottle.

Whether you think it's worth the extra is entirely up to you.

Totally agree. They seem very expensive but they do last a long time and they smell really lovely, never overpowering. Guests often comment how nice our place smells and ask about the diffusers.

If the aim is to smell like a five star hotel rather than a Holiday Inn Express it’s probably going to cost something.

Hotels do have their own signature scents, it's part of their brand advertising strategy to make you remember them and book again. Most chains sell them so worth checking out their online shop as they're usually lumped in with bedding and bathroom toiletries. If not on the UK website try their Asian portfolio as Singapore and Hong Kong are pretty hot on this type of advertising.

I think there is only one. I just went around and topped them all up from a refill bottle.

These Cire Trudon scented candles are also very nice but costs soon add up. We save these for special occasions.

I love essential oils and use many in my own homemade candles and reed diffusers.

Please be aware if you have pets that some essential oils are toxic to them.
