Hi folks,

I've picked up a honda hp 500 power carrier (basically a large wheel barrow with tracks). Its ex hire plus an owner and wasn't running, its a bit of a winter project, I reckon their is life in it yet!!

The engine (a Honda GX160 - GC02) is stripped down and one head stud has snapped about 12-15mm out of the block / barrel it looks fractionally bent possibly. Any tips for getting it out? It also has a bent valve.

I see you can pick up a chinese copy GX160 engine for £100 and up are they junk? Would like to see this running though for a laugh!

As I don't want to spend a fortune on parts can anyone recommend anywhere cheap to buy parts from?

Any input appreciated!!

Try asking on karting forums, hire karts and I think Pro karts use The Honda gx160 Engines

They are copied all over the world, and replacement (non genuine) parts will cost you buttons if you're prepared to wait 2 weeks for delivery from China. Ebay is just as good as anywhere, or no doubt you can find websites which might be easier or may have slightly better quality parts. If you want genuine then expect to pay quite a bit more, but there are enough engines about you might find one you can break cheaper than buying individual parts.

As for the head bolt, weld a nut on and unscrew it.

The joy of Honda GX engines is that they start first time, every time. No matter how long you leave just run. As soon as you start putting pattern parts in, this tends to not be true. Loncin GX clones are bds to start and an utter pain (for example).

You have a GX that has been abused - god knows what state it is really in (bent valve suggests something bad had happened). Thus the bill could be ugly.

Unless you really like engine building projects, just put a new one in. I got mine from here https://www.justhonda.co.uk/honda-small-engines.ht... . You pay them 350 odd quid, it arrives 2 days later, it screws straight in, and you’re off wheelbarrowing

£265 on the "bay" for a brand new one from what appears to be a reputable place George Carr Power Products in Bristol

Although for something like this and you can do the work, you can probably get it done on the cheap with third party parts but as said you will likely then loose some of the bullet proof capability of the unit.
