Following on from the 'bulb' thread.

We have just bought our house and need to switch and am considering Bulb, £50 for me and same for my colleague.
Currently: British Gas for gas (ok, not great or cheapest) and Scottish Power for elec (appalling service already, just sorting out the interim billing period, most expensive quote to date as well).

The other option appears to be Octopus. Slightly more money, but another 'small' green provider with good rates and ratings, fractionally more but fixed for 12 months. They have rung me out of the blue, seemed fair enough.

Just in the process of switching from Scottish Power to Octopus via U Switch. They seem to have the best deal for us, mainly £48 a month instead of £76, minimum one month contract and unlike some, no hidden terms forcing you to have a smart meter. Will have to update later as to how they perform.

Thanks, sounds good.

Having worked in the industry for over 12 years, I’d say they’re about the best of the lot.

I’m just about to move to them as the new build we’ve bought has been set up with British Gas.

Been with octopus for around a year now, was slightly annoyed that they never informed me that i was nearly £700 in credit but apart from that they are very good and easy contact, only other thing is that they end their emails with "love and peace" it makes me cringe.

Yes, switched from NPower 2 months ago and saved £39 per month on gas and electric.
Changeover went smooth with good communication and I would certainly recommend to others.

Also been with them for almost a year now. No complaints at all, I submit our meter readings monthly online and it's easy to track our usage and change the direct debit if required. Bottom line is they're cheaper than Southern Electric and have better service so it's a win, win.

I'm looking to transfer to this company as they are pretty much the cheapest for me. However, it appears that if I am referred by an existing customer we would both get a £50 credit. Does anyone have such a link and would like an additional £50?

Tried switching to Octopus from British Gas, through U-Switch last year, however the British Gas electric and gas meters (smart) weren't compatible so the switch had to be cancelled, I ended up remaining BG.

Its crap they are no compatible, but why was it a deal-breaker, smart meters don't do a lot over just taking a quarterly reading.

I was told that it wasn't the "smart" features that were causing the issue, it was actually the meters themselves, they don't work with Octopus, I would need new meters.

I would have been fine to have lost the smart functions, I wasn't paying though for new compatible meters.

Interested in this. We're currently finishing up with EON and have been looking at Octopus. We've got a pv array we own ourselves, no gas, just electric and oil.

Any experience with Octopus serving this sort of setup?

Oh right, then that's really odd. Unless they are so 'smart' they don't have a readout on the front of them preventing manual reading?
