Garage flooring

Probably been done a few times before, but it is always best to get up to date information.

I have a double garage which has a rough concrete floor. It is very dusty. I have had very limited success in the past with my old garages and painting the floors and hence I am asking for ideas what else can be used.

I have been quoted £35/sq m for plastic tiles that look like jigsaw pieces. These were 7mm thick. This did look very nice, but i cant help thinking it is very expensive, when looking on ebay at similar items.

I have also heard that a screed layer can be placed on top of the current base and this can be polished up to look like ceramic flooring. Does anyone know where this can be obtained and how expensive it is?

I am in the same sort of position. Just finishing off a new double garage and want to put rubber matting down. From looking on the internet there are various options but £35 sq M sounds expensive but I suppose you get what you pay for. However at 35 sq M it would cost me £1260 which isn't going to happen. Cheapest I have seen is on Amazon and would cost £200 put not sure how durable they are. Also got them on Maplins. Screwfix take your pick.

Product looks good, but £1250 would be me a cheap classic car. I could live with the dust :-).

A few options....

Get some concrete floor sealer and roller it on. No more dust and easily sweepable.

Latex screed and then glue down some vinyl floor tiles. No more dust, and its moppable.

Latex screed and have some polysafe floor down over the whole floor.

Vinyl tiles would probably be the best solution. Look out for some proper Marley floor tiles as they are about 2mm thick and are quite robust.... And you could mix the colours too for a pattern.

That's the best part of £30 a metre... I think the OP wants a more economical solution.

problem with this is the joins between rolls, unless you have a long thin garage you will want to lay several rolls together and probably have to cut the whole lenth of one roll to fit. Not so easy.

I'd say go for the tiles. I painted the good condition (house was a new build) concrete floor in my old garage and this was okay but it was starting to lift off in a few places after a few years. When we moved the new place had pretty bad concrete floors in some barns - already very 'dusty' and uneven so I went for tiles to lay over the top. They do cost a lot compared to other ways of finishing the floor but they seem very durable and they eliminate any dust coming from the floor and are a pleasure to work on. Since they clip together if you do move you can take them up again and move them to your new place so although an expense it is one that you should get a lifetime's benefit from. They look pretty good when down too I think...

What rolls? It's a levelling compound??

The reason I chose the Cempolay is that it leaves a final wearing surface which a lot of levelling compounds don't, and I can get it down the road in Jewson, so when I realise I'm one bag short, I don't have to wait a week for delivery. I'll Epoxy paint it once once set.

Have used cempolay. Need to use a spiky roller to lay it properly.
It's ok for the price.

Yes really, I have a similar garage floor, modern carpet is fireproof, its comfy to work on, moving a jack about is quiet, it absorbs minor spills, well mine does.


I just replace mine every couple of years, its utterly brilliant in the cold weather too.

When you park a wet bike/car on it wont it start to stink after a month or two?
