How about this?

A few miles from my family farm in Ayrshire in a typical quiet and small village.

The beautiful former vicarage turned into a modern mess in my eyes!

Bar, hot tub, grey and "wall art"

Heathens!
owner: You know that new streetfood popup they made in the car park of that stty area of town? yeah I'd like it to look like that thanks. (that or love island)

Front garden seems to have been ramraided by a tarmacer. There are at least some mature trees in the garden but the owners clearly like mowing grass. What's the obsession with grey?

So you've never taken the A38 from just outside birmingham up to the M1 J28?
Why in the world would I do that?

I live south of Birmingham, in Warwickshire. If I'm going north on the M1, I use the M69 from Coventry.
I used to live in Sutton Coldfield (so on the A38 itself) and I've never done that either biggrin

M42/A42 up to junction 23A.

I love this place and it's an utter bargain.

There's no need to keep the current occupants' taste in decoration and furnishings, and the tarmac could be easily replaced/reduced. Love it. I'd actually seen it some weeks ago as I'm actively considering moving to that area and often browse properties. Would definitely be on my list if I were in a position to go now.

Pennine Hotel by any chance?
Rings a bell. From memory it was an oldish building in a corner of some pedestrianish area. Parking was through an arch in the building and the lounge was to the left of the entrance. All a bit dated but perfectly nice.

That said, a hotel we used in Leeds was similar. As was the night!!!

I know nothing about the area and whilst the building itself is erm, striking, that looks absolutely incredible...
WTF? It's 20 yards from the Irish Sea and the builder thought "I know, I'll dig up 70% of the garden and make it a pond"?
I quite like 'modern' houses as a general rule, but that looks like the bd love child of an office block and a static caravan.
Lovely inside and the railway doesn't bother me much, the trains are very slow there and you get access into Dublin.

But:

The outside doesn't work in that location, and I suspect will age terribly.
The pond - why? I assume it was already there and is a condition of planning that they keep it, that's the only acceptable reason.
Estate agent - putting a picture of a bunch of auld mammies freezing their tits off in the Irish sea right outside my breakfast table is not going to sell me your expensive house.

Fair enough, just hideous in my eyes but could be stunning.

This is more what we are looking at for retirement. Originally from Ayrshire but been down in Surrey for 35 years and looking to move back "home".

This would be perfect if it was just a bit more isolated from other properties.

As you say it's just superficial but it's aggressively priced for where it is, you can get similar that hasn't been chavved up with a little patience.

Fair enough also. That's a lovely place. In retirement I'm not looking for anything tooooooo isolated, you never know when you might need someone to hear you shout for help...

Ayrshire is on my list, I'm not from there but my family came from another part of Scotland to the south of England. Ayrshire seems to have a great combination of countryside, coast, my kind of climate, plenty of facilities and easy access both north and south. I'd like something around Alloway, I think.

Your definition of the North is interesting.

Story checks out for Derby though given one visit I've had there in my adult life.
THE NORTH starts at Staples Corner. wink

About an hour south of Birmingham puts you on a similar latitude to London.

I've lived south of Birmingham (Warwickshire) for more than 20 years, and I've not once had to skirt Derby. It's not on the way to, or from anywhere.
Reading would be about the same latitude as London. I'm definitely North. biggrin

I've ended up skirting Derby when heading to York or Durham.

Looks like a contender for Grand Designs.

Heathens!
The outside is quite nice, excusing the brown plastic.

However the inside… the massive TV, the style of the kitchen chairs, a sex pond, how they don't seem to be able to use a town-rad, the fake plant wall, the sign, ‘Spoofers bar’ in the massive freezing/boiling conservatory…

£50 says the lady of the house works in beauty, maybe he has a BO55 number plate.

Most of it could be sorted though.

Definitely an OnlyFans studio. Although obviously I wouldn't know anything about that sort of thing...

I've done quite a lot of contracts at Rolls Royce over the Years, so only ever stayed mid week.

I've sampled some really nice restaurants in the city centre and a few decent pubs.
I've also drunk in a few pubs with a reputation, in areas that have a reputation and never felt unwelcome. Mind you I was usually on my own.

What a bloody mess. Any period charm and character has been stripped out and replaced with absolute tat. Awful conservatory and other extensions/alterations too.

The whole thing resembles a cliche. Each room appears to have been formed around the question 'what would the semi literate shouty person on that ITV show do?'

It's like the person has never been outside and their only experience is from TV but then the enormous TVs in every room may well support that.

The building seems incredibly cheap though so is the area some kind of fetid council hole of needles, do Ryanair skim the tiles every few minutes or is that normal for the area?

I’ve just bought this with a mate, probably the worst one we have done. It’s in a nice area and will sell easily once refurbed.
I have not touched it yet, this is how it was bought.

Does seem quite cheap though?

Nothing a good lick of Magnolia in all the rooms wouldn't sort out.
