How often should you do this btw. Of course depends on usage but would be good to know

I’ve got 3-4p on Agile between 1 and 2pm tomorrow. I’ll charge the car for an hour, do a load of washing and run the dishwasher. That lot should come in for free apart from the cost of consumables.

My fixed Tariff with Octopus is coming to an end and they're offering their wholesale tracker which is slightly less than their new fixed tariff but that's fixed for a year. I'm expecting the 'cap' to rise later this year so am tempted to fix. Anyone else fixing atm?

Did anyone else get an email last night from octopus offering free electricity for an hour today? Apparently I've got free leccy from 1-2pm.

ETA: the email.

Irony is, it's going to be cloudy and probably raining from 1 to 2 pm today here.
Plenty of wind power though.

Interesting offer but I have solar so dont use anything during the day anyway.

I guess I could switch the inverter off and charge the car for an hour but then I would be losing the export at 15p during the time. Plus it only costs me 7p per kW to charge the car overnight anyway so its more trouble than its worth.

The offer isnt really aimed at solar customers anyway smile

I figured the same; it's quite sunny today and our battery will probably be full by 11am and exporting. I could faff about and set it to export back to the grid for the hour before, then force charge it during the free period, but it hardly seems worth the bother. As you say, not really aimed at solar owners.

I can’t see how it’s aimed at anything more than publicity. It’s free use over your usual use in that hour and most things that take lots of electricity take it for more than an hour so you would be paying more either side.

I suspect it's more of a trial to see how much energy their customers can use during the period from a simple email.

What's your usage? Have you got an EV? Can you shift the large power users to off peak periods or do you have young children that need cooking for in the peak period? Do you have a smart meter?

Love it. I've just moved my office into our garden room which has a tiled floor with electric underfloor heating. We've been here almost 4 years and have never used it so thought I'd give it a go - the tiles are warming up nicely. Car plugged in and dryer on too which is just over 12kw in total.

If its free may as well use it so got the car plugged in the washing machine and dryer on and even hoovered up! Not sure exactly how much extra I used but must be a decent amount.
