Kitchens, what company?

Have fitted about 20 and there are definately tricks to know. Used to get them from Contrast Kitchens in Carlisle. Good stuff and they came ready assenbles and made to fit. Need to get the measurements spot on though.
I'd recommend that route too - we used a local kitchen company whose ordinary range is basically made out of the same stuff as the DIY sheds but the difference is that they make it from scratch in their own workshops so they can do any size and the units come ready assembled (just assembling a kitchen full of units from flatpacks will take you an entire day, at least). They were there or thereabouts the same price too.The only companies going bust at the minute, are those who had problem pre credit crunch. At this point in time, the credit crunch has sped up the inevitable. The banks have simply stopped lending to companies unlikely to recover.
If you want to be very safe, buy through a big retail chain. The best place to get a good deal, is Jewson, Travis places like that. They work on tighter margins because they supply direct to builders, so consumers can go, and negotitate.
My critism with them both, is that they aren't great at retailing kitchens to consumers... They wont give you a pretty picture, and aren't amazing at providing inspirational ideas!
So, go to a normal retail chain, get your design, and pop into the merchants. I think most people will be in for a shock at how much you can save! The kitchens come from the same manufacturers as most retail and independents, just that little bit cheaper. Happy Shopping..

After shopping around I got ours from www.withknobson.com (it's honestly not a dodgy website!). The cabinets are delivered ready built and are very good quality. I found the website a bit confusing for ordering due to the huge range of options so I ordered ours through phone and email contact. The price was pretty good too.

Ikea also have a funky design your own kitchen function on their website. Put in the dimensions of the room, locations of doors and windows and away you go.

Have you tried the B&Q planner?
Neighbour tried that last week. Her utility room is really no more than a short corridor, about 5 feet wide with a door at the end. The B@Q 'autodesign' feature put cabinets along BOTH long walls leaving about a foot in the middle!I designed my kitchen in Word using text boxes set to scale sizes, with various fills/textures for the different surfaces.

Just saw B&Q ad on the TV; not only are the kitchens half price (as mentioned by someone earlier) but installation is half price too!
Still wouldn't use them though![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
I can't stand the coffee-bean pattern they insist on putting inside all the cupboards. For that reason alone, I'm out.Still wouldn't use them though

Wickes
I searched a long while for a reasonably priced but well made kitchen. I would have gone Ikea, as at the time they had far more clever design features available, but they didn't do online ordering then, & I couldn't face the 100 mile round trip x20 I would have needed to buy everything from there.
When OH wanted a kitchen, Homebase quoted him nearly £15k to supply & fit for a 10x9' room! I looked with him & thought Homebase were shoddy TBH.
B&Q were slated to me by several people.
Wickes kitchen in a contemporary cream gloss, stainless steel fittings & gloss black worktop was £2500 in their half price sale. I bought top quality German appliances from discount internet suppliers. I had to pay for some labour as needed a stud wall ripped out, plastering & re-wiring done, but the units were assembled & fitted DIY (really easy). The worktops I had cut & fitted by a pro, badly cut worktops look obvious & cheapen the look. Total cost was around 5k (12x12 room) and 4 years on it still looks fantastic![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

I can't believe Moben are still in business. Lies from start to finish
Ring ring, "Hello Moben Kitchens UK"
"I'd like to cancel my order and get my deposit refunded"
"Hold please while I transfer you to the Refunds Dept"
They have a refunds dept FFS - tells a story (and based on my experience do they damn well should!)
