If only your friend had done a bit of research, they would have found that these fish (carp) grow to the size of their environment. Therefore, by buying bigger tanks, they were accelerating/causing the 'problem'.

These two fish would have remained roughly the same size had they had more companions.
Actually, I lied. They purchased increasingly bigger tanks to avoid cleaning them.... and added companions.... now all 4 are big. Bigger and chavvier than ever.

The fish are hated. They must go.

They might even end getting some of what the garden gnome got.

No. I really don't. Especially as the moving of the tank yesterday somehow broke the pump which had to be replaced - then the pipe fittings had to be changed because they were a different size.

My cats are hungry....

Personally I can't stand them. They are a bit chavvy.... chavvy fish = chish.

Anyway, I digress....

I have a friend who bought a couple of goldfish for their kids, they grew, got a bigger tank, they grew more, got a bigger tank. Now it's silly and they want to get rid.

But where? where on earth do you get rid of fish, pump & tank etc?

Someone here must know. Animal cruelty such as toilet flushing is not an option.
Aquarist Classifieds?

BTW, I guess you haven't seen a decent marine tank in a house then...

Decent? it's not about decent, or cost, or aesthetics.

I need to make my friend get rid of these creatures.... before he starts building a bar in his living room and hanging horse brasses about the place.

If I can't help, I'll send your friend in the direction of Practical Fish Worrier as I'm sure somebody there will take them.

You should go there and have a read, you'll love it wink

Have to disagree with you on the chish front. Like anything (i.e. cars) a fish tank is as chavvy as you make it. My son has a nice bi-Orb in his bedroom that is just fine.

As to getting rid, it's just a flippin fish, just flush the things and sell the equipment via the usual channels.

Why does it bother you soooo bloody much??

I think there are deeper issues here, fish notwithstanding.

As for fish being chavvy.... grow up!

I've had goldfish for the last 16 years. They are no way Chavvy. I find them very relaxing but they wind the cat up something cronic which can be a laugh.
