Gravity fed filter via a bottom drain, pumped return from the clean side of the filter via a UV clarifier and then back into the pond through a venturi. Filtration, aeration, minimal noise, minimal maintenance. Easy to DIY with cold water expansion tanks, solvent weld fittings and a lot of silicone sealant for the bulkheads on the bottom drain and the filter. Particularly suited to raised or semi-raised designs, because you can incorporate a valve in the filter to allow you to flush all the fish crap out by gravity.

Thanks for the replies, on the subject of the construction will 9inch blocks be ok?
Any tips or websites that explain the construction process? Just want to make sure I dont forget something in building it that I will regret in future!

Thanks

No experience personally but one of my mates built a stunning carp pond and the filtration was based on a central heating pump, a placcie barrel, and some nylon gauze. Been in for years and the thing looks as healthy as hell
