£294 here includes the vat ( Derbyshire) for an 8 yard on the drive. You get 10 days to fill it. Then they leave it on your drive for the next 3 weeks even after you phone them 3 times …..

2 full skips on top of one another is a new one to me.

Im not known for my heath and safety , but a box kept falling off the one on the wagon and he tried to throw it back on multiple times. The sight of a skip full of concrete swinging above his head did make my toes curl a bit. hehe

Down my way (east Hants) a 4 yard skip is around £150. However, for home renovation stuff it's worth noting that not all waste removal services will take plasterboard and those that do will have special requirements for how it is wrapped/separated etc due to current regs.
It's not quite at asbestos levels of paranoia, but can be just as tricky to get rid of.

Feel I need a sanity check and also some lube.

When did ordering a skip get so bleedin’ expensive?

4 yard skip for 7 days and I’m getting quotes in the £190 zone. On top of this I have to put it on a public highway and I have to get a permit which is, and I st you not, £150 plus whatever admin fee the skip company decides to put on as only they can get the permit and not us oikes because rulz. Thanks Essex CC…

I remember it was only about a decade ago when it was about £80 plus a drive to the local council offices for a permit which was about a tenner. Different county but c’mon man.

So, how much is it around your way? Are we all getting reamed or is it because I live in the Essex badlands?

No wonder the builder left it to me to sort as I probably thought he would be ripping me off had he organised it!
Sounds about right to me. Current prices of many things can seem expensive until you break it down into constituent parts.

I paid £380 last summer for an 8 yard skip on my driveway. I even shopped around, some companies were asking for over £400

£307.20 for a 5 yard skip in May.

Two weeks' skip hire for that, luckily got mine picked up on the Monday after having it delivered the previous Friday. Was a rusty old thing that had been welded a few times!

What’s this about plasterboard being difficult? I’ve not heard that yet.

You guys have it CHEAP.

North London
- 4yd Skip = £300 for 7 days.
- Street Licence = £595 (£85 a day). YES you read that correctly.

So you have to find somewhere to pile it all up on your property, then ask the skip company to wait while you load, otherwise it costs a fortune.

Net result a LOT of fly-tipping and I actually don't blame people, when the cost of a skip is that insane.

Something to do with mixing with water and becoming toxic.

With the company I use it's meant to be bagged and on top of the skip.

I believe it's quite recyclable.

Blimey. Sunny Reading is £41.60 per week, for up to 4 weeks; then you need a new one.

I think I can just about top the thread, £220 for an 8 yard enclosed. Once they found out it was getting filled with carpet from a job it was £120 a ton to get rid of it hehe

Wanted £1180 if I filled the skip. Told them not to bother and I’d go elsewhere!

I am usually around the £220-£250 mark though

It's very recyclable and is a key ingredient in making more plasterboard.
But gypsum based products can no longer go to landfill and will need to be collected separately from general building waste.

10 years ago in a different country it was cheaper. The neck of these skip companies is an outrage.

Around £200 for 4yd and £280-300 for an 8 yd where I live, £40 for a permit that lasts 6 weeks.

Apparently when landfilled it upsets everything, both disrupting the biodegradation, and also producing hydrogen sulphide and making a bad stink.
