I'd use a sponge if I were you.

I’m going to nominate the humble step up ladder.

I do a lot of house maintenance but I only bought one of these around 4 years ago. I seem to now use it only nearly everything I do. I used to get by with a combination of a tall set of steps or by standing on a trusty chair, but this is so much better (and safer).
I bought one of these last week and honestly don't know how i coped without it.

The werner one is only £26 in Wickes atm too

They are brilliant, very stable, take up no room and most importantly make a perfect seat for the obligatory Tea break with enough room to support a selection of biscuits.
yes

I’m literally sat on line right now having a choccy digestive, having just used it to cut in around a couple of ceilings. And do the downlight electrics. And as mentioned above, this weekend I’ll use it to wash the car roof.

Don’t know how I made do without it. 100% wish I’d bought it earlier - like 20 years earlier.
Worth noting they aren't entirely idiot proof - when I first got ours I was just stepping straight up onto the top bit whilst ignoring the step on the side, and wondered why at the end of the day my knee was killing me.....

I'm trimming a hedge right now, could do with a 1.0m tall one. Can only find 0.5m. Maybe they're significantly less stable, when over 0.5m?

Glad you clarified, I thought it was just figuratively.

Yes!

When I bought my first place I got an el cheapo combination ladder from one of the sheds, as I needed to get into a loft and also needed to wire up some ceiling lights. That served as my only ladder for years, and I just assumed that ladders were uncomfortable to use and a little awkward.

Then I replaced it with a top-up and a proper Youngman fibreglass step ladder that is about 2.2-2.3m high so suitable for anything inside a typical British house (anywhere there isn't room remains a hop-up job).

So much better; more comfortable, safer, the ability to work at the correct height for the task at hand is much better than struggling.

It shows why anyone who needs to work at height has various tools for achieving that - hop-ups and stilts right up to scaffolding via extension ladders.

Finally got this. Nice little thing, with attachments to take 1/4" sockets, and screwdriver bits, so more than a 10 and 11 mm spanner. And it folds.

Who fits 11mm bolt heads?? It’s the least used spanner and socket I own apart from 7 and 17mm.

In fact they’re unused.

I just use my Workmate for this. Supports up to 160kg, according to the specs. I realise that someone will tell me that I'm lucky I'm not dead.

That would be worth seeking out as a a 10/13.

yes however I remember 11mm was a better fit than 7/16 on Ford V6 big end bolts.

Or 10/12.
I see it as a stubby 10mm + mini/palm 1/4" ratchet, which I didn't have.

Ford used 18mm stuff on the front suspension of the old Focus I had, that was a p.i.t.a.
