Nice house, but the Streetview isn't selling it to me.

They've tidied it up now, some old WW2 gubbins there

My favourite house in my home town is for sale... https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/149633681#/...
We were going to hire it for our wedding party.
There is one MAJOR issue though (not the fact it's in Brixham, don't be rude) and that is it seems to have a shared drive. Buggar.

That's pawn for me.

Why is the shared drive a major issue?
Such a half hearted advert. I'd be furious if I was the owner. Pathetic description. No pics of kitchen etc.

Lovely place though. With some more modern decoration and probably a new kitchen, that could be outstanding.

I'd also be wanting better security.

Spin through 180 and you're looking at the harbour and right at one of the loading slips used to embark for D Day. It's a living museum. The second picture down shows exactly what it looked like 80 years ago.

Feeling a lot of love for this at the moment.. not porn in the whole country estate sense, but this ticks a lot of boxes for me, including a short stroll to a decent pub!

Lovely and appeals to me more than the large country estates that are often posted.

Having a break in this area in a few days so had a look at property thereabouts. Lovely country home here for very little money (but I'm sure all the money for the area!)

One in my parent's village at the foot of Kinder Scout, walked past (one of the main paths up Kinder goes past the front door) many times over the years and always admired it.

Weird looking property boundaries. Is someone else living in the middle?

'Shared driveway', so yes, probably.

They have actually done that pretty well, but having lived in a similar setup (a hamlet of 3) it's a firm "no" from me.

Interesting.

By coincidence, I had this exact discussion with my girlfriend last night. Essentially, my point was that living out in the sticks on my own holds zero appeal to me, and that if I had to do it, a small hamlet style setup - much like the one posted above, is how I'd prefer to do it.

Incidentally, my acid test for what constitutes "out in the sticks" is the question "can I easily and practically walk to amenities?"

If no = in the sticks.

I should imagine it’s great if you have good neighbours, and awful if you don’t, as you’ll be seeing a lot of them either way…

Yeah, I think the only way I'd do that, is a multi-generational single family hamlet type thing.

Same risk as living anywhere other than on your own in the middle of nowhere, surely?

Although, I suppose if you're living in a small hamlet and everyone else in the hamlet doesn't like you, then yeah, that's not gonna be a fun game.

I have lived in a hamlet of 4 houses, the other guys were arses and no one talked or helped each other or maybe it was just me that was the arse!

This place was properly "out in the sticks" 5 mins drive to the road then a further 10 mins drive to a town or village with a shop

It all looked idyllic but it had been carved up in the 60s meaning two of the houses had insufficient provision for cars.

It wasn't immediately evident but became a massive problem as one of the other was massively self entitled and refused to countenance a solution other than parking on my expensively constructed parking and turning area.
They left and the new people were much better and came up with a solution but the damage was done and we moved. Would have had to move even with them as were too friendly. A better problem to have but sometimes you just want to get in the car and fk off.

It would be a good set up for an extended family though.

I live in the sticks. It’s a village but has no amenities. Driving to buy a pint of milk is a ball ache.

We can buy meat grown opposite our house, but have to drive to a butcher to buy it.
