I've had to file a Self Assessment for the first time and have completed it online. Good news is that everything pretty much tallies, however they say I owe them 22p.

I understand it's 22p, but it seems somewhat daft to pay this by card with a 1.25% surcharge. Is there a system whereby amounts that small are disregarded? If not, I'll pay it but it still seems a bit odd! hehe

It says it has to be paid by 31st, so bank transfer won't make it in time. I'll have to do it by card. Seems a bit silly for such a tiny amount, that's all! I'll pay it through BillPay tonight when I get home.

HMRC are happy to let very small amounts like that remain unpaid and they will just add it onto next years liability.

on 25p?

Not sure that they bother on small amounts - I've had 23p owing on my SA account since 2006 and as of today it's still 23p

It is added on but the increments on small balances are so small that they won't show up until a full 1p has been reached.
